Former President Goodluck Jonathan Was Turning Nigeria Into A Banana Republic by Orikinla(m): 6:38pm On Feb 08, 2016 |
Former President Goodluck Jonathan had a so called transformation agenda for Nigeria which he wanted a second term to accomplish his masterplan. But instead of transforming the country, he was turning Nigeria into the biggest Banana Republic in Africa. The new administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will need a Marshall Plan for the nation building of a New Nigeria of our Nigerian Dream. |

Without respect to Jonathan, he wasn't the one who started the rot in Nigeria... He only didn't care to make any effort in reforming it. 2 Likes |

Nigeria Is Still a Banana Republic |
Re: Former President Goodluck Jonathan Was Turning Nigeria Into A Banana Republic by Orikinla(m): 5:43am On Feb 09, 2016 |
MansaMoussa:. Some people don't even know what is a Banana Republic and they posted childish and foolish comments. From the Niger Delta to Abuja, a political mafia of gangsters and the corrupt ruling class formed a cartel that ruled Nigeria under Mr. Jonathan who was afraid of them. The mafia shared billion dollar contracts on export of crude oil and import of petrol and kerosene and also contracted to take over the constitutional duty of the Nigerian Navy in the Gulf of Guinea and instead of protecting the Niger Delta, they turned the region into the largest supplier of stolen crude oil for the Togo Trangle and also shared contracts for the procurement of arms for the Nigerian Armed Forces. The former President became their captive and puppet. The tragedy of it all was that, they did not use the billions of dollars to develop their region of the Niger Delta and northern Nigeria, they spent their blood money on real estate in America, Dubai, UK, Abuja and Lagos and abandoned developments in Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers and Delta . Bayelsa, the home state of the former President remains the most underdeveloped state in the south-south of Nigeria. Rivers State has one of worst airports in Africa and sometimes smells of human waste. The former President and governors of the Niger Delta region claimed to have spent billions of dollars on world class hospitals in their states, but they never used them and spent billions of naira on foreign medical trips. Instead of developing their states like Lagos State, they abandoned them and built mansions in Ikoyi, Banana Island, Lekki and Victoria Island. One of the former governors never lived in his state, but in Lagos. They are already investing in Eko Atlantic City, when they would have built their own Calabar Atlantic City, Yenogoa Atlantic City, Warri Atlantic City and Port Harcourt Atlantic City. Bayelsa does not even have a single five star hotel. And when I was one of those hosted by the current governor at a state dinner, he boasted that he would turn his government house into a five star hotel. And many idiots at the dinner were clapping for his stupi-dity. And they have just re-elected him for a second term! Bayelsa does not even have an air strip and no ferry service. The capital city is not even as developed as the suburban Ajegunle town in Lagos State. 3 Likes |

And the op is not concerned that having identified Nigeria as being turned into a banana republic as he claims, the APC jumped in ostensibly to save the situation and yet has no Marshal Plan? They will need? Is a plan not supposed to be drawn and analysed to identify possible pitfalls before embarking on a project? Almost one year in and there is no identifiable economic, foreign or national blueprint in place. Even the budget is riddled with gross incompetence and blatant corruption! How does one then claim to be a better alternative when nothing has been done differently from what we had? Beyond in-your-face tribalism that is? Orikinla: 4 Likes |

There is a documentary the BBC wants to do on the political mafia in Nigeria and the reporter wanted me to be part of the report, but I was warned for my own good not to be part of it. And I told the BBC guy that I would not be part of it. Search for the "Ghosts of the Niger Delta" written by a foreign author and a Nigerian journalist in exile. He fled Nigeria to escape from the mafia after he published the evidence on the dirty deals in the NNPC. Yes, I agree with the comment that Nigeria is still a "Banana Republic", because the current anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari is selective. If it is not selective, former President Olusegun Obasanjo should be in the witness box to tell Nigerians all he knows about the political mafia made up of members of the former ruling party, PDP, from Niger Delta to Abuja. OBJ knows more than the facts he documented in the three volumes of his new book "My Watch". He is the only one they are afraid of in Nigeria. But he is also involved, because some members of his family have been implicated from Abeokuta to Ajaokuta to Abuja. If President is really serious about the war against corruption, he should have revoked the licenses of oil blocks given to some members of the mafia. There a list of the big properties they bought in California, USA. When I asked the real estate company for their names, I never received any reply to date. The billions of dollars shared by those from the Niger Delta will be enough to start industries to employ everyone in that region and give free education to every poor child, from primary school to the university. But Bayela has no airport and no seaport. Bayela, Cross River or Rivers can be the Dubai of Nigeria within five years if the billions of dollars are invested in their states. Who is fooling whom? 1 Like |

kenny987:. You are prefectly correct. The APC does not have any master plan and three of the ministers are in fact overwhelmed by their portfolios. One of them does not know how to run his ministry and still excited over his political appointment. It is really strange that Nigeria had more competent and efficient federal ministers during the military regimes with that of Gen. Yakubu Gowon as the best miliary regime and the best adminstration of Nigerian government since 1960 to date. The Minister of Information and Culture does not even know that the National Troupe has collapsed. Whilst, former President Goodluck Jonathan did a lot to boost Nollywood, he did nothing for the National Troupe and abandoned the National Theatre that can be used for film tourism. |

kenny987: You keep hammering in its been almost one year and all .if you must know it's 9 months (3 full months short of one year ) which is a long time in politics and government. 2015 budget is still being implemented till March 2016. This government have its plans but can't start implemeting until April by which time hopefully the budget would have been passed .part of the plans is to spend up to 30% on capital projects, 500 billions on social intervention programmes all which will stimulate the economy. Educate yourself and learn to be coherent in your analysis instead of being blinded by hate and your hero's loss of election. |
