These EFCC guys better watch it eh !

After this administration is gone I see plenty heads in the enforcement agencies rolling.

Be objective. Did he put the persons sought to be arrested by law enforcement agencies beyond their reach? Did he, in a manner inappropriate communicate with a Judge? Those are the pertinent questions - not the persona. Typically Nigerian comment. sad

Never rejoice. Don't support those judges/lawyers. Their corruption is worse than those of the politicians. Just like politicians, the lawyers/judges don't really care about us!

Won ti po to. They needed to protect their own, their privilege is gradually been eroded and they are being exposed so there is a need to rally round their own and protect their supposed privilege. I'm sure the court would not be intimidated by their cheer number. They gonna have their days in court like every other person.

HAABBAA .. OK WE UNDERSTAND OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE ... BUT WHAT DOES SEIZING HIS MOBILE PHONES AND MERCEDES BENZ HAVE TO DO WITH THAT .. THESE EFCC GUYS NEED TO BE CALLED TO ORDER .. U JUST CANT GO AROUND IMPOUNDING PEOPLE'S PROPERTY WITHOUT LAWFUL CAUSE.... THEY EVEN GO AROUND SEALING PROPERTIES ALL IN THE NAME OF INVESTIGATION...WITHOUT VALID COURT ORDERS ..

FINE WE WANT TO FIGHT CORRUPTION BUT WE SHOULD NOT ALSO FORGET THAT ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS .. THE INTERNAL SYSTEM OF CHECKS NEED TO BE IN PLACE TO LET THIS GUYS KNOW THAT THERE IS A VERY THIN LINE BETWEEN FIGTHING THE CORRUPT AND BECOMING CORRUPT .. THE FACT THAT WE GAVE THEM THIS SENSITIVE RESPONSIBILTY DOES NOT MAKE US LESSER MORTALS...

MOROVER EFCC IS ON FINANCIAL CRIMES ... THEY NEED TO ACT WITHIN THEIR LIMITS...

OGA RICKY ABEG SHOW THEM SMALL ... EVEN IF ITS TAKES A WHILE TO GET A RULING.. LETS TEST THE LAW...

Rickey Tarfa(SAN) must have being a very nice lawyer among his colleague for Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) to have led about 32 SANs legal team on his behalf. Given the egocentric charater of some lawyers, It is very rare to hear a number of SANs coming out en masse for one of their own especially on a matter of serious allegation of offence. I recalled only few junior and senior lawyer led protest when chief Mike Ohzekhome(SAN) was kidnpped

Prominent lawyer, Rickey Tarfa(SAN) yesterday approached a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) and its acting chairman, Ibrahim Mustapha Magu to pay him N2.5billion compensation. This is coming less than 24 hours after Tarfa was granted an administrative bail by the EFCC Lagos office. EFCC has however filed a two-count charge of obstruction of justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice against Tarfa.

The anti-graft agency accused Tarfa of willfully obstructing two authorised officers of the EFCC, Moses Awolusi and Sanusi Mohammed from arresting Gnanhooue Sourou and Nazaire Odeste, who were suspected to have committed economic and financial crimes in contravention of Section 38(2) (a) of the EFCC Establishment Act of 2004. In count two, Tarfa was accused of engaging in improper communication with Justice M. Yunusa of the Federal High Court Lagos between May 11 and June 25, 2015 while the case between the EFCC and two others was ongoing.

At the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday, Tarfa was accompanied by 32 Senior Advocates of Nigeria(SAN) led by the former President, Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Chief Wole Olanipekun.Tarfa is asking the court to compel the defendants which included Moses Awolusi, the operatives that arrested him and the Deputy Director Operations(EFCC) Lagos office, Iliyasu Kwarbai, to release his two mobile handsets deceitfully collected from him on Friday,5th February, 2016 at their Ikoyi office in Lagos. Tarfa is also urging the court to direct the defendants to release his Mercedes Benz SUV with registration No. KJA 700CG which was unlawfully seized from him.

32 SANS? oh truly the man is silly

where on earth has anybody seen this kind of scenario giving the impression that some persons are above the law and if the law dares to attempt to moderate their conduct, woe betides the law.Who is really meant to be intimidated by 3200 SANS if they are even that huge number?
This move grossly underestimates efcc/govt and deny the fact that efcc also has a great clout and the wherewithall to enlist 64 SANS and remunerate them with at least 5 million Naira each plus plenty briefs IN THESE ERA OF TOO MANY CORRUPTION TRIAL BRIEFS rather than concedes defeat and pay 2.5 billion Naira.

However ,if a man is arrested for a simple offence such as obstruction of justice ,is the offence not a bailable offence?.seeing that he is a senior lawyer,he should have been granted bail and thereafter charged to court to defend himself.why do you have to detain him for fri to Sunday and why do you have to impound his vehicle and mobile sets ,if that is really true as alleged.

The present scenario of leading many SANS to court is fast becoming the tarfa's trademark response whenever he has a brush with the law as this was also the same scenario that the court was faced with when tafa was docked over a decade ago by nuhu ribadu led effc during obasanjo's regime. This style borne out of belief that one can with one's stature dwarf the law itself can unleash far reaching unitending consequences, should those on the receiving end strongly feels enough is enough.

i will caution TARFA to eat the humble pie and refuse to allow this matter to be unduly escalated.there is a point where the crowd that urges a man unto battle begin to disperse. Those of us who lives in glass Housed are not free to throw stones anyhow like our neighbors with mud houses.

Events like this ,unintentionally,,bring to the fore once again ,the issue and essence of SANship itself which jurisdictions like america ,though of the same common law origin, like nigeria has since done away with .

Sometimes it looks like Nigerian political elite, the parliament, SAN lawyers, have all colluded to wage war against the people in order to enrich themselves in perpetuity. Just a thought.

How come Senate will spend so much energy vetting the budget of the executive and no one knows the budget of the Senate and the House?

How come elected officials collect hundreds of billions in the name of 'security votes' and there is so much insecurity in the land?

SAN almost means you can no longer be questioned and not even the Police dare stop you!

The issue here is not the partisan tendency of our security agencies. Again, I ask that we be objective. Is it within the legal right of a citizen SAN or no, to obstruct a Law enforcement officer from doing his duty by concealing the persons sought to be arrested in your car? That is the issue.

This so-called SANs or is it SARS are clog in the wheel of progress in this country. They think they can intimidate or hold the whole Nigeria to ransom. They think we don't know that they are the ones aiding and abetting corruption in the judiciary. The corrupt politicians and other enemies of this country often use them as conduit to channel bribes that run into billions of naira to corrupt judicial officers. They know how to t advise their clients on how to evade punishment even from glaring cases of massive fraud and other economic crimes. See the crab Oyetibo was arguing in court yesterday in the case of Tompolo . He refused to enter undertaking to produce Tompolo in court in the next hearing yet he has met Tompolo face to face and did not advise him to obey a validly issued court summon. This is tantamount to aiding and abetting illegality. On this Tompolo's case we did not see these so-called SANs out to demonstrate or persuade Tompolo's lawyer to release him for trial. In the case of Ricky Tafa, these SANs don'tt know that they are in solidarity with is a known criminal in wig that aids and abet corruption through his legal prowess. He once escaped the wrath of the law recently in respect a land case he handled where he converted the proceed of the sale of land to his private pocket. If they believe in the rule of law, let them go to our various prisons and police stations and go to fight for the release of those poor innocent Nigerian held for years without trial.

You think lawyers are 419,one day you will be a victim of Police or any other law enforcement high handedness, then you will realize that lawyers are not 419.This is not about Ricky Tarfa or lawyers, but this is about dignity of persons and respect for the law as no person or organization is above the law.
