The governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano has praised the courage of Nigerian journalists and media professionals over the years saying that they are the true heroes of Nigeria's democracy.

Chief Obiano was speaking on Thursday, 11th February 2016 at an interactive session at the Governor's lodge in Amawbia with journalists in Anambra state under the umbrella of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Corespondents Chapel.

Continuing, Chief Obiano said he was highly impressed with the quality of reportage from the journalists and charged them to always check their facts by crosschecking with the relevant government officials.
He recounted some of his administration's major achievements in education, agriculture, infrastructural development, public utilities and security which has enabled the Anambra state Investment Promotion & Protection Agency (ANSIPPA) to attract foreign investments which currently stands at over 3.2 Billion dollars. He said that when the various MOUs signed with the various investors are actualised within the 1 - 2 year gestation period, Anambra state will be on its way to becoming the economic hub of not only the South East but the whole Nigeria.

He said that despite the economic downturn, Anambra state was one of the four states still paying salaries in Nigeria. He said that his administration has not abandoned any project he inherited and reiterated his commitment to complete the 3 flyovers and bridges currently under construction in Awka and other parts of the state. He said that dwindling oil revenues requires that states become more creative in revenue generation. He charged the journalists to help spread the 'pay your tax' message. He said the mantra of his government remains the 4Cs; Continue, commission, commence and complete, and also doing more with less

While speaking at the session, the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Culture & Tourism, Dr. Barr. (Mrs) Uju Nwogu thanked the governor for deeming it worthy to host the media professionals. She also thanked the journalists for supporting the state by publicising the various activities of the Anambra state government.

In his remarks, Mr Emma Ndukuba, Chairman of the NUJ Correspondents Chapel appreciated the governor for meeting with the journalists. He congratulated him for his excellent performances across all sectors in the state. He praised the governor for being one of the few governors in Nigeria that still pays salaries and on time. He said that Anambra had never had it so good but tasked him never to relent in his efforts pledging that the journalists will always ensure that they are positive and fair in their reports. He pleaded with the governor to provide a vehicle for the Chapel as that would aid them in their professional work.
