Competition for jobs is at an all-time high so you need to deploy every weapon you can! Here are some tips on qualities employers are looking for.
1. Skills Match
The candidate should be able to demonstrate skills that would make them a good match for the job. These skills could include strong communication, willingness to work long hours, dedication, and an outgoing personality.
2. Be Honest
It’s very easy to spot people who are pretending to know what they are talking about. It does not impress!
3. Be Interesting
Employers expect someone who is remarkable, memorable, stands out, is unique, and demonstrates why they are the best candidate to fill a vacancy in their company.
This can be out of work activities – the fact that you recently ran a marathon, won a sports prize, or you volunteer to help at your local hospital, mention it. It will make you stand out from the crowd and it will show dedication and personality outside the workforce. Employers look for assets such as these to contribute to their companies.
4. Be Informed
Employers expect candidates to take an interest in the company to which they are applying. Do not expect to be seriously considered for a job in a company if you do not know what their mission is, what their product or service is, and the name of the owner or manager. Show that you have gone out of your way to find out about the company. In small businesses it is crucial to understand how companies interact with consumers and what makes them tick. Unlike large corporations, small businesses cannot afford to lose potential clients, so knowing the background is important.
5. Be Polite
This encompasses a plethora of things but if good manners come naturally to you, then you will be on time, well presented, courteous to everyone you encounter and a pleasure to talk to. With a good personality, the right skills, a positive outlook, and strong knowledge of the company you are applying to, landing the job of your dreams will be within your reach.
