The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has taken a swipe at Governor Yayaha Bello of Kogi State over the demolition of roundabouts in Lokoja, the state capital over allegation of voodoo power planted under them by past administrations. This is coming just as the Audu/Faleke Campaign Organisation also condemned the exercise, said the demolition was ill-formed and demonstrate the cluelessness of the governor on issues of priority of governance.

The state PDP through its Publicity Secretary, Bode Ogunmola who spoke against the demolition exercise and other issues of governance yesterday in Lokoja while briefing newsmen on Bello’s first 30 days in office accused the governor of running a voodoo administration. He said, “Residents of Lokoja, the state capital woke up last week Friday and Saturday and discovered that major roundabouts in the city have been destroyed overnight by bulldozers sponsored by the state governor.

The first casualty of this policy was the Lugard Roundabout right in front of Government House. Other roundabouts in the city have since followed suit. “Those already demolished are Kogi Circle, NTA roundabout, Paparanda Square, Welcome to Lokoja roundabout, Ganaga roundabout, zone 8 junction and Lugard roundabouts

“The allegation has it that the governor ordered for the demolitions on the advice of marabouts who are claimed that roundabouts harboured charms allegedly planted by past governors of the state! This voodoo government will certainly beat the imagination of every right thinking person in this century.

“We call on the governor to provide more purposeful leadership and leave voodooism to its occultist practitioners. No state can move forward if its leaders are held back by ancient unscientific and diabolic practices.”

I do not think that's the real reason for the demolished roundabouts. I think he's just trying to give the state capital a face-lift as lokoja happens to be one of the worst state capitals in Nigeria. The issue of voodoo is just a camouflage as the people are too resistant to change except it has a spiritual backing.
