This is a welcome development, I hope all those misguided 'yoots' that have been calling the Emir a bigot are reading this.

Kudos to Dangote and Emir Sanusi, spearheading the much needed energy revolution in Nigeria.

I thought Lagos has oil and gas? Why does he need to draw gas from akwa ibom?

Wouldn't it be easier to site his industries at the source of the gas which saves him money and prevents vandalism?

Don't be daft. I'm sure you read in the article that solar power would be the energy source, and nowhere was the movement of coal from Enugu mentioned...so stop portraying yourself as an irreverent bigot.

What is nice about this development. Taking natural resources from the south and developing the North and west? If the source of gas for his refinery is in akwaibom, y set up the refinery in lagos abi na ogun.

My friend there are coal deposit in so many northern state like Nassarawa, kogi, zamfara etc. It is a good iniatives to invest in Coal thermal station.

Investment in power will be a very profitable venture in South eastern Nigeria, city like onitsha, nnewi, aba etc will provide a huge market because of her large middle income class

My friend that is capitalism for you. The market is the major determinant of location of industry, the demand is the key. These are men investing their money on productive ventures not some government elephant project.

I visited a Mable film in onitsha (anambra) some weeks ago... The raw materials for such maples were imported from ondo state. It doesn't really make financial sense to the man we went their together, he was of the opinion that the man could have set up the factory in ondo and then bring in the finished product to anambra.

It is because of his interest in this company that Emir Sanusi has been putting pressure on the FG to devalue the Naira.
When you devalue, Foreign companies and buyers commonly have bigger interest with cheaper rates and they can certainly compete on the market more favourably.

You are right Akwa Ibom is actually in the South East but for political expediency and the oilthey were lumped into South South and Ondo which is part of the Niger Delta was politically kept as Niger Delta in the South West.

Gowon made sure no single drop of oil was in South East, including selling bakassi Peninsula to cameroun, but God pass them.

But seriously in this age and time, the world is talking about renewable energy, not coal that will do more harm to the environment.

Deceptive heading, the "South East" mentioned here is clearly Akwa Ibom from the article cited.
FYI, bulk of the investment will be in Lagos where Dangote's refinery is based, the only investment in Akwa Ibom is supplying gas from there to Lagos and Ghana.

Is it that they no longer teach reading and comprehension in Nigerian schools or just that the students outrighlty refuse to learn.
The article clearly stated that the Black Rhino group is investing in three power related projects.
1. Solar plant in Kano (100mw)
2. Coal power plant in South East (1000mw)
3. Gas pipe line from Akwa Ibom to Lagos and onwards to Ghana.

Is this hard to comprehend? What's the fuss about Akwa Ibom being in South East or South South?
Nigerian masses being their own enemies...

Black Rhino, an indigenous portfolio company of Blackstone Energy Partners, and Dangote Group of Companies, are to jointly invest up to $10 billion in energy infrastructure projects in Kano State and in East South Nigeria.

The projects are with particular emphasis on renewable energy, power transmission and building of pipelines.

Muhammadu Sanusi II, emir of Kano, who is the chairman of Black Rhino Group, disclosed that his group and Dangote Industries would contribute $5 billion each for the construction of a coal power plant and a solar energy project in Kano, as well as gas pipeline project from Akwa Ibom to be constructed to South West, where Dangote Industries were concentrated.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Emir said the consortium decided to embark on the power projects in Kano because of the power crisis in the state.

He further disclosed that the coal project and the solar energy project would produce about 1,000mw and 100mw, respectively.

Emir Sanusi expressed optimism that the projects would, to a large extent, improve electricity power generation in the state for both the consumption of residents and for the revival of the ailing industries in the state.

In his remarks at the occasion, Aliko Dangote, chairman, Dangote Group, expressed optimism on the viability of the projects, assuring that it would improve power generation in the state and resuscitate industries to generate employment opportunities for the teeming youth and make the economy vibrant.

Dangote said the gas project from the South East to Western Nigeria would extend to Ghana, and would go a long way in addressing the energy needs of industries within the region, particularly those under the Dangote Group.

On his part, the state governor expressed hope that “the project would bail Kano State out of its prevailing economic depression and uplift the state to another level of economic prosperity and development.

“Now that the national economy is dwindling, we have no better way to revive it than to invest in agriculture and resuscitate our industries.”

He promised that the state government would provide land, among other things, to enable the project materialise.

Stressing that power is very critical to the survival of industries in the state, he announced that the state was also making modest effort to provide electricity through the ongoing multi-billion naira Independent Power projects at Tiga and Challawa, which would generate 35mw of electricity.
The news did not state where they will site this project at bold
