Acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has said President Muhammadu Buhari, may soon order for the auditing of the accounts of the commission.

Semenitari, who disclosed this yesterday when a delegation from the United States Congress, paid her a courtesy call at the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt, described the commission as the most regulated government agency in Nigeria.

“The National Assembly is trying to carry out a holistic investigation into what is going on in the Niger Delta Development Commission since its inception in year 2000. The Senate committee just left the region after touring all the nine states that make up the region to inspect NDDC projects.

“I suspect President Muhammadu Buhari may ask for the auditing of the accounts of the NDDC very soon. The NDDC is the most regulated agency in the country.”

The acting NDDC boss stated that the Niger Delta Development Master Plan, the policy document for the development of the region is due for review, even though the document has not been fully implemented.

“When the commission was set up, it had a lot of consultations and came with the Niger Delta Development master plan, which is supposed to be the policy document that informs interventions in the region, whether by governments or other stakeholders, the international oil companies that operate here, or even, development agencies who do their work here.

“That document has a clear categorization of the needs in the the region, the problems as they exist and the things you need to do to achieve development.’’

Leader of the US Congress’ delegation and staff director, House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations, Gregory Simpkins, said as a major country is the African sub-region, the stability of Nigeria is very important to the United States of America.

“Nigeria is very important to us as a partner in security, trade, excreta. As a major country in this region, it is important to us that there is stability here in Nigeria. The economic hub of Nigeria is here. We have come to speak about Niger Delta development.’’
