CJN orders day-to-day trial of corruption cases, bars judges from granting stay of proceedings

In a bid to fast track the trial of alleged
treasury looters, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, yesterday, directed Judges handing corruption cases to hear such matters on a day-to-day basis.

The CJN said the National Judicial Council, NJC, would henceforth, descend heavily on any trial judge found to have stayed proceeding on any criminal matter before his court.

The EFCC on Tuesday arraigned a former Head of Service,Mr. Stephen Oronsaye, a FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja on two counts of fraud.

The prosecution accused Oronsaye of abusing his position as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Financial Action Task Force in 2013 by fraudulently obtaining N190m, being part of the N240m grant which the committee received.

"Most of the courses of poverty are artificial;
ranging from diversion of public resources for
personal gain,misplacement of priority, inflation of expenditure,poor budgetary allocation to critical sectors,poor policies & sometimes laziness from the part of the citizens. This is evidence to the fact that many people want to get govt appointments, instead of engaging into self subsistence business”

The former National Security Adviser (NSA),
Colonel Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (rtd) has
dragged the Federal Government before the
ECOWAS Court of Justice, demanding N500
million over his continued detention since
December 2015.

The former NSA is asking the ECOWAS Court to declare as unlawful, unconstitutional and breach of his fundamental right his arrest since last year without a lawful
court order.
