This is no different from UFC and boxing.... There's a price won the question is just what's the price

We keep losing our traditions and history trying to be civilized. Soon our languages will be extinct, when will Obama wear agbada in the U.S ? When will queen of England tie wrapper ? They should their tradition to us in the name of carnivals, Halloween n other stuffs like that. I am not Yoruba but this is a real man showing his endurance in pain and if there's a price then it's not a waste of time.

I'm not sure if what these boys are doing is based in religion. But I think what the country you're thinking of is iran. The shia Muslims practise beating themselves on a particular day to pay homage to a prophet I think. The Sunni Muslims do not follow this practise.

But I don't think that's a what these boys are doing. As they collect a prize afterwards

anonimi:

I believe it is a cultural/religious thing and something similar is done in Iraq, if I am not mistaken.

Nonsense. We are in 21st century, they're taking us back to 17th...

I think that I said CULTURAL/religion. Please check my post again.
Meanwhile every religion is finally a culture i.e. a way of life for those who choose or are forced by birth or otherwise to be members of the group. Not so

Naijacitizen:

In Fulde, it's called Sharo

Yes indeed, it is a coming of age ritual for young Fulani men during which they can exhibit bravery and ability to endure pain, and uphold family honour by not flinching or showing any sign of pain as well as to attract admiration from potential female suitors.

Nonsense. We are in 21st century, they're taking us back to 17th...

The Spaniards must also be taking us back to the 17th century with their tomato feast/fight that draws many TOURISTS and brings forex into their economy plus EMPLOYMENT, not so
The same for (sometimes deadly/tragic) bull fights.

I'm not trying to argue with you. Just giving my opinion. Religion has its culture, but cultures do not have to come from religion.

That same beating competition is taking place also right now in Epe, lagos state. It started saturday 19 to sundqy 20th while all along the road around the shrine OJUALARO is blocked

If its the fulani that are doing it now people will shout illiteracy and backwardness but since its some other language doing it now its okay
