1. Ayodele Fayose (Governor, Ekiti state)

Fayose is a second term governor. He had allegation leveled against him of embezzling the state’s money during his first term, with a poultry project, which never came into existence.
Some indigenes of the state are of the opinion that the governor has nothing to offer the state, except eating food on the streets with the locals, whose lives have not fared any better, despite the governor calling himself, a man of the people.
According to Nosa Igiebor in his piece titled ‘Our little Emperor’ in Tell magazine edition of Monday, October 26, 2015, he specifically took a swipe at Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, saying:
“He (Governor Fayose), wants to adorn his capital, Ado Ekiti, with an airport, whose initial cost is a modest N17 billion. If the airport ever gets completed, the final bill may double. It should be noted that the Ekiti state capital is about an hour’s drive from Akure, which has an airport, which is as busy as an abandoned graveyard.
“And if the highway between the two cities were to be dualised, that could cut the journey time by 50%. This one viable alternative to what is obviously ‘a white elephant project’, which he could partner Governor Segun Mimiko of Ondo to develop. And they can toll the road after, to recoup their investments and create a source of additional revenues for their states.”
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state

2. Abdulaziz Yari (Governor, Zamfara state)

Zamfara state is close to airport states like Kano and even Jigawa. The state is one of the poorest states in Nigeria. The state is battling with childhood diseases like measles. Yari is the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF). Many believe the governor should better focus on bettering the lives of the people to welfare programmes.

3. Ibikunle Amosun (Governor, Ogun state)

Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transport , during his inspection of some projects and visit to Ogun state, to see the state governor, some weeks back, advised the governor, to rather use the money he intended using to build his proposed cargo airport on unfinished projects and infrastructural development. It is still in the same Ogun state that residents of Obafemi-Owode local government area, cried out to the governor and the federal government that they have been living in darkness for several years due to perennial power outage.

4. Willie Obiano (Governor, Anambra state)
The former bank director has been trying to deliver the dividends of democracy to Anambrarians. He is reportedly focusing on the agriculture sector, by giving incentives to farmers, in order to boost food production in the state. He is also waging war against ghost workers.

5. Rauf Aregbesola (Governor, Osun state)

Osun state lacks financial muscle compared to a state like Ogun, which is said is not viable yet for an airport.
There have been series of strikes and agitations by different labour unions in the state, regarding payment of workers’ salaries, bonuses, gratuities and other emoluments.
The sad experience of last year is still crystal clear in front of a good number Nigerians, whereby some NGOs and well-meaning Nigerians, had to come to the aid of some starving Osun state government workers, who were owed backlogs of salaries. The hungry workers were assisted with food items and other deliveries. It was one of the worst experiences in the history of Nigeria.
Some members of the major opposition political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun have lampooned Governor Aregbesola. The Punch of Monday, January 18, had the caption, “ Aregbesola inflated airport contract by 11.5bn, says PDP”.
Mr Diran Odeyemi, the director of media and strategy of the PDP in Osun, said the governor inflated the contract sum of the Moshood Abiola International Airport, Ido, Osun, from N4.5 billion to N15.5 billion. Mr Odeyemi also added that, Aregbesola wanted to use the airport to embezzle the bailout loan the state got from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

6. Okezie Ikpeazu (Governor, Abia state)

The governor was said to have performed below par, while he served in the administration of his predecessor. Aba, in Abia state, the commercial hub of the south-east, is in dire need of infrastructure upgrade. The city has so many dilapidated roads and refuse dumps taking over almost every corner of the state.

7. Ifeanyi Okowa (Governor, Delta state)

He is a first term governor. The leader of Delta state is yet to pull any string in terms of major developmental projects in his state. It was during his predecessor’s second term tenure that the idea of the airport project was first mooted. Embarking on this project is not the best for the welfare of the people of the state.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state

8. Umar Tanko Al-Makura (Governor, Nasarawa state)

Nasarawa is very close to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, which has an international airport. Analysts think Al-Makura should focus on human development, as his second term will end in three years’ time. He should think of how he will provide succour for the unemployed graduates and youths, through well-planned poverty alleviation programmes and schemes.
Governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state.

Most of our leaders have no business in governance. If the states were getting it right forget the Federal government Nigeria would have been an el dora do. What is a state like osun doing with an airport when Ibadan is a stone throw. A state that is grappling with next to zero IGR and staggering debt profile vigorously pursuing another white elephant project. Where will this kind of thinking get us if not into further misery and hopelessness.

Human developments and Resources should be govt priorities, the infrastructures in each of the state mentioned are deplorable, they should focus on maintenance and utilization of what is on ground before bringing a mammoth projects that will be abandon half way.

Abuja, Lagos, Rivers, Kano, Anambra, Delta, Enugu, Ogun and Abia.

Well the op stop crying because infrastructures are already rising at the site of the Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport.

Like the Op rightly pointed out, a good number of these States don't need airport at least not now.
Ekiti is yet to pay workers December 2015 salary not to talk of January, February or march(I work for the state government), osun state is owning months and even the ones paid was half salary, workers in in ogun state just gave the governor a 2week ultimatum to pay up or face industrial action, with the above stated reasons coupled with the ones raised by the op, I cannot but agree that these 3 States definitely do not need airport

If the proposed airport is built in oba which is at least 30 mins from Onitsha . Most businessmen will still prefer ASABA airport with is literally across the pond.

Same for ABA. There are two airports within 30mins of ABA - Imo airport and portharcourt airport.
If the proposed airport is built in umuahia, owerri airport will still be closer to ABA business men and will continue to be preferred due to proximity.

I rather they plunge that money into other state infrastructure.

They can built world class hospital for a start.

Or a dubai class shopping mall and move their current dirty markets into malls.

The airport thing is one of the majors ways of embezzlement by governors. Truth be told am from Ogun state but States like Ogun, osun and ekiti don't need airports cos the road distances within the sw apart from upper parts of Oyo state are not too far apart.

The airports projects are white elephant projects that can never be viable. Do I need to use a plane to move from osun to ekiti? Or I need a enter arik to move from Lagos to Ogun? This must be a joke

Ndi Anambra and Abia should calm down cheesy cheesy cheesy.

Remember Enugu International Airport. Anyi bukwa n nwanne. If you guys leave us to build your airport what happens to our own airport nah.

If I am Gburugburu I will convince Obiano and Ikpeazu not to build airports even if it means building federal roads that connects the states.
Example there should be more than 3 roads connecting Enugu to Anambra. Enugu Governor should construct all the roads leading to Anambra thereby making Obiano feel that it's absolutely unnecessary to waste funds building any airport in Anambra.

I am saying this cos Enugu needs to get more IGR from this Airport badly. Our brothers building theirs will reduce Enugu airport patronage. grin

With better road network linking states, most states in Nigeria don't need airports, those funds can be channeled into building more dual carriage ways and we will be fine.

And if we introduce fast moving trains in Nigeria, only Lagos and ABUJA airports will have passengers as most Nigerians will want to conserve their hard earned cash. Don't u think so.

Weep all that you want but Anambra International Cargo Airport is already under construction. Anambra International Cargo Airport is being built at Otuocha which is central to the major cities of Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi.

Anambra International Cargo Airport will also serve as a hub for ATK in West Africa where planes from all over the continent will land to refill due to nearness to the Orient Petroleum.

Anambra is developing 3 worldclass malls in our major cities while that of Onitsha is due to open to customers next month.

Take your worthless advise elsewhere because it is dead on arrival. cheesy

This is an unnecessary betrayal of emotion. Stop deceiving yourself because these are federating units with it's own demands and programmes. Anambra needs the airport more than Enugu State. FACT!

Why not Enugu state scrap it's own airport and build expressways?

Anambra International Airport will be the busiest airport in Nigeria after Lagos and Abuja.

OBIANO FLAGS OFF AGULERI-OTUOCHA-UMUERI AIRPORT ROAD

Aguleri the fishing and agrarian community of Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State came alive with the flag off of the 8.5 kilometer Aguleri-Otuocha-Umueri Airport dual carriageway which the State government was constructing at the sum of N5 billion.

Anambra State governor, who also inspected the Aguleri –Uno oil rig road project, a 40 kilometer road and several bridges, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, reassuring the people of the State that the entire projects would increase economic activities in the State by the time the airport and the road projects are completed.

The governor, who was briefed by the contractor on the progress of the project, also expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the project, which on completion would open up seven food producing communities in Anambra North.

While addressing the people after the inspection, the governor said the projects are in the interest of the people, especially the Airport project which when completed would have a depot for aviation fuel for international flights.

He announced a new partnership with a South African company that will boost electricity supply in the Omabala region and beyond.

The State Commissioner for Works, Calistus Ilozumba, said the state had secured approval from the Federal Government for the airport and had also acquired enough land for the project and therefore the road to the airport is very important.

The governor’s entourage moved to Nando From Aguleri, another food producing community in Anambra East local government area for the flag off of a 4.5 kilometer road, awarded at N1 billion.

The governor flagged off
