Sunymoore: Define nature. if u were one of our forebears, u wouldn't believe in airplanes. The problem with Africa is that we don't try to discover the mystery behind facts. Besides, when God chooses to interfer in the affairs of men, every natural rule, could be suspended. |

Zoharariel: The day I lost respect for Pastor E.A. Adeboye, a PhD in mathematics, was when he told his congregation that there was this particular man who had been longing to have a glimpse of him for a very long time. So, one day, as they were in church, anytime this man makes an attempt to have a sight of him someone will unknowingly block him. So, he, the man, then prayed to God and all of a sudden the man just grew tall, to the extent the wife could not recognize him again, and he was able to see him. Does that not sound like uncle Jimi Solanke's story land story land, bring your friends along. To all those castigating you, leave then to their folly, Christianity in Africa was founded on deceit. 2 Likes 1 Share |

@OP, I have always been wondering on the fuel consumption of the car while the a/c is on. This confusion stems from the fact that, even while the engine is off, you can run your car a/c. The only snag is it runs down your battrey How come the a/c consumes fuel when it actually runs on the car battery? Would be grateful if more light is thrown on this. |

hrhjnr:What happens to the additional load on the engine when the AC is turned on?? Wouldn't the engine need extra fuel to accommodate the additional load? |
Re: 7 Myths About Fuel Economy by walcolm(m): 10:46pm On Mar 28, 2016 |
that roadside mechanic talk about AC being a load is in itself a myth. the AC compressor is always connected to the engine by the fan belt. so whether you're actually using the AC or not, it is already factored into the car's fuel efficiency and its part of the engine analogy: if your fridge is plugged in, if you turn the temperature to cooling or you dont, it will still use up your electricity. the difference is that when you ask it to cool, the cooling agent travels through the system to drop the temperature as it is using that electricity. the same thing is what happens with the car AC 1 Like |

Re: 7 Myths About Fuel Economy by 9icetoo(m): 3:14pm On Mar 29, 2016 |
walcolm:wrong! while your compressor is connected to the engine by a belt, it is not pumping/compressing any fluid until it is engaged. at that point it puts load on your engine which increases fuel consumption. even lights and fans load an engine and increase fuel use. the amount of fuel used to compensate for the extra load depends on the state of the engine, engine power output, amount of load etc. i am ashamed of some of the responses here. the internet is a global village and I hope readers out there do not take the responses here as a fair representation of our level of knowledge. 1 Like |
Re: 7 Myths About Fuel Economy by walcolm(m): 3:19pm On Mar 29, 2016 |
Actually, what you should be ashamed of is your own response and like you said, the information is out there for any one who wants to learn. the fact the you say lights and interior fan (electrical systems that run off the car's battery) load a car's engine confirms to me you do not know what you're talking about. those who want to know, are free to learn |
Re: 7 Myths About Fuel Economy by 9icetoo(m): 3:19pm On Mar 29, 2016 |
jeak123:you can only run your blower (fan) with the battery but not your Ac compressor. your compressor needs your engine to be on to work unless you have an auxiliary heating or cooling system (available in some new model vehicles). this auxiliary system runs on whatever powers your vehicle though. the Ac does not run on the car battery. |
Re: 7 Myths About Fuel Economy by 9icetoo(m): 3:27pm On Mar 29, 2016 |
walcolm:and the battery gets its juice from the alternator which in turn gets its power from the engine. do you get the logic here? connect a scangauge or obd Bluetooth readout to your car, lookup "engine load", turn on all electrical appliances on your car to maximum and tell me if the engine load figure does not go up. we are all here to learn. I learnt a lot here and in other fora but I swear the level of ignorance here is monumental. |
