Let Us Know Those Nigerian Buildings That Got You Wowed. by Truefederalism(m): 2:34pm On Mar 27, 2016
Hello, Nairalanders.

We are going to do a little exercise. I implore you to please help this researcher out.

We are currently carrying out a research on the "conceptual architectural analysis" of certain Nigerian buildings.
We have heard on various occassions and from a lot of people; Nigerians and foreigners, that Nigerian Architecture, like so many other things with Nigerian identity, is not at par with its contemporaries.
With this questionnaire therefore, we are asking you, as Nigerians, to give us the names, pictures, and locations of those buildings that have got you wowed and left you fascinated at the thought process of whoever designed it, its construction process, and the materials and methods employed. Tell us who the client, architect and contractors are where possible.
We will appreciate also if you will narrate your first time impression. Let us know what the structure communicated and if it turned out to be true.
If you can't get pictures, just give us the name and location.
For the architects in the house and other building professionals, post yours and let us know if it conforms with any of the philosophies; form follows function, function follows form, less is more, more is more, less is a bore, or any other.
Give us the concept also, if possible.

Your list should exclude;
The NNPC Towers, Abuja
The Ecumenical center, Abuja
The National Mosque, Abuja
The Anglican Cathedral Church of Christ, Lagos.
The Ship House, Abuja
The NASS.

By conceptualism in this case we mean the predetermined rationale behind the architect's final output. This will mean the form, function, functional relationship amongst and between spaces and with the external environment, and the way and manner with which the architect played with shapes, volumes, lines, brief contents and other elements to achieve or effect some degree of psychological impact on passersby and users alike.
For example, one of the facilities being analyzed currently by this researcher is the National War Museum, Umuahia. In this perticular case we are studying to ascertain, from an architect's perspective, the possibility and the extent to which this particular museum architecture has curbed or should curb rising agitations for a divided Nigeria.

Attached herewith are some pictures that should guide and help you understand us better.

Thank you.
