FULANI HERDSMEN: WHY THE NIGERIAN NATION SHOULD BE WORRIED
Man to man is so unjust, man’s inhumanity to man is soaring daily, so is the Nigeria’s fragile nation sliding into.

Over the years, Nigeria has witnessed a lot of civil unrest both on religious and ethnic line. In fact, this “wars” has been part and parcel of the Nigeria’s political evolution. Tribal war, religious unrest, boundary disputes aren’t a novel phenomenon to Nigeria as a nation.

The recent killings and massacres by the much dreaded Fulani herdsmen around the country is increasingly outrageous. The usual reason put forward by the apologists of this evil doers is that the clashes are best described as “farmer/cattle-rearers” clash.

However a glance at the statistics will necessarily rebut such claims. The ever armed Fulani herdsmen maimed and killed farmers and also displaced thousands of others in an onslaught of attacks which started since feb 22nd with about 7,000 persons displaced and more than 400 persons killed in Agatu village.

The usual excuse by the Fulani herdsmen is that their cows were attacked by the farmers upon feeding on their crops. This is so untrue because there have never been any coverage of such dead cows but only the bodies of innocent children , pregnant women, and weakened old farmers have littered the deserted Agatu village. Even if the allegations are true , is the worth of a cattle’s life the same as that of a man? To say these blood thirsty are crazy is an understatement.
Interestingly, every massacre in the middle-belt by the Fulani Herdsmen is usually followed by two development; the desertion of the village and towns by surviving members and a subsequent occupation by the Fulani herdsmen. Isn’t it right to assume the Fulanis are deliberately attacking their preys in order to take over their lands? Or better still a tribal cleansing happening in the North?

This recent killings and past atrocities should worry the the Nigeria nation because of its heterogeneous status in both religious and cultural values. If a halt is not applied to this trending menace, it is only a matter of time before a general hatred will be abhorred by Nigerians against the Fulanis which will not be healthy for the Nigerian already fragile nation.

The FG’s silence over a serious issue like this is even more appalling. If one looks at the zeal in which the FG and the Nigerian Army took in addressing the Biafran protesters and the Shites movement earlier this year, it might be safe to conclude that the FG indifference to this menace is frustrating. Perhaps because the first family are Fulanis!

The need to tackle the root cause of this clashes between farmers and herdsmen is increasingly apt . Government at various levels should provide grazing paths and fields which can leased out to the cattle rearers and to prevent encroachment of farmers’ crops.

The FG should also enlighten the herdsmen about the obsolete status of nomadic rearing of cattle in this century of ours. This is not obtainable anymore in sane and developed countries. Radical educational evangelism still need to be preached because the lack of acceptable standards of behaviors obtainable in a decent environment and defection both in character and in learning can only best explain the usual restlessness among the Fulani herdsmen.

Nigerian nation is a fragile one with the presence of much complexities, if this menace isn’t curbed at this early stage, we might be growing another “Haram” which would not be healthy for the unity of the nation. People’s emotions are high already and almost all Nigerians believed the cups of the Herdsmen are full already.

Is it not obvious that Buhari is the commander of the fulani militias? 7000 displaced or massacred in agatu alone?

Something urgent just needs to be done on this issue, more alarming is the rate these ppl enter Farms with their cattle and eat crops. This is when Nigeria is talking about diversification of its economy to non-oil areas and agriculture as one of the major focus. Yet, ppl are loosing their investments to herdsmen. If care is not taken, the remaining farmers we have will leave the farm and we would need to import EVERYTHING including garri!

What is more disturbing is the silence of the commander in chief over issues that bothers on national unity and the well being of his subjects.

One thing is certain, Buhari is either a bigot or a Dullard.

a Bigot because he wouldn't have given it a second thought b4 unleashing the Nigerian army if it were the shiites, Ipod or Niger deltans that have been maming people the way his kinsmen do.

a Dullard because he(including his team of "trusted and competent northerners") couldn't come up with a solution that will bring to a definite end the activities of this barbarians.

Wonder if Buhari really sees himself as the president of Nigeria or as a Nigerian ambassador to the world.

Grazing route ko, express route ni.
They should do that up north.
People who run poultry buy animal feeds. Since they are not spending much on education, they should spend the money on ranches up north.
