Nigeria: Senate Summons Dalung, NFF Over State of Football

By Jude Opara

Abuja — Following the continuous dwindling fortunes of Nigerian football, the Senate Committee of Sports has summoned the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung and the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) to appear before it on April 12 .

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Obinna Ogba told journalists in Abuja that the invitation is for the two bodies to brief it on the latest stage of preparations for Team Nigeria ahead of the August 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil and to explain the events that led to the elimination of the Super Eagles from the Gabon 2017 All Africa Games (AFCON) qualification.

Senator Ogba argued that the upper legislative body needed to be informed on what went wrong with the team, adding that its explanations would also help Nigerians to know the true position of things.

He equally hinted the interest of the lawmakers in the rumoured poor preparation of Team Nigeria for the Olympic Games.

The former member of the board of the NFF, further revealed that the senate committee will also use the opportunity to find out from the NFF leadership what they have on ground for immediate preparation of the Super Eagles for the upcoming Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying matches.

"I have asked the clerk of the committee to issue a letter of invitation to both the minister of sports and the NFF leadership, and they will appear before the committee on Tuesday, April 12 to explain their plans for the events ahead.

"It is obvious that Nigerians are not comfortable with the recent happenings in the country's sports. It has become pertinent that the sports committee should intervene to avert future disappointments which has put Nigerian sports in question mark.

"Very soon we will go into the Olympics and as at this moment we do not know our level of preparedness for the games. After the woeful 2012 edition, we promised to get it right in the next four years, so we should be intimated on the level of our preparations to ensure that we do not return from Brazil empty handed as we did four years ago in London" Senator Ogba added.

Iwobi can fill the shoes of Kanu but stop pressuring him!’

Alex now has the eyes of more than a few nations on him

By Lee Hurley
Former Nigerian youth international, Eddy Lord Dombraye, has warned people not to put too much pressure on Alex Iwobi as the Arsenal youngster starts to make his mark on world football.

Bursting on to the scene this season, Iwobi already seems set to increase his wages from £750-a-week to around £30,000 if recent reports are to be believed. What is certain is that a new deal is on the way.

Expectations are rising with every performance and it’s not hard to see why.

He’s quick, strong, skilful and intelligent.

He looks like the full package and it’s easy to forget that he’s just 19 and only just being exposed to football at the top level.

Already playing for his country in a full international, the weight on Iwobi’s shoulder is building.

“Nigerians should not put pressure on him. I mean the media should stop trying to compare the little boy with his big uncle Jay Jay Okocha,” Dombraye told Punch in Nigeria.

“He can fill the shoes of Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu, but should not compare him to because it will put the young player under pressure.

Eagles drop to 67 in FIFA rankings

Super Eagles players

Idris Adesina

Nigeria may not be seeded for the final group phase of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers as the country dropped five places from 62 to 67 in the April world rankings released by FIFA on Thursday.

The seeding for the World Cup qualifiers would be done in June and it would involve the top five ranked teams on the continent by then while the other countries would be drawn behind them. The final phase of qualifying involves 20 teams who scaled through the preliminary phase of the qualifiers. The winners of the five groups would represent Africa in Russia in 2018.

According to the latest rankings, the Super Eagles, who crashed out of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, plummeted five places from 62 in the world to the 67th position and are now 14th in Africa as against the 11th position they occupied in March.

With their ouster from the AFCON qualifiers, the Eagles now have 534 points as against the 547 points they garnered in March.

On the continent, Algeria, who were ranked third in March, are now the first team in Africa. They have 771 points to move four spots up from 37th to 33rd in the world. Ivory Coast are in second place with 738 points to move from 36th to 34th. Ghana, who are 38th in the world, are third on the continent.

Senegal with 651 points and 43rd position in the world are fourth. Egypt, who top Nigeria’s 2017 AFCON qualifying group, are in fifth position. The Pharaohs, who are 44th in the world, moved from the seventh position in March. They are behind Cape Verde, who occupied the second place last month. Cape Verde dropped 16 places to 47th and are sixth in Africa alongside Tunisia, who retained the 47th spot they occupied in March. DR Congo, Guinea and Congo complete the top 10 on the continent. Cameroon, Morocco and Mali are the other countries ahead of Nigeria in the rankings.

The top 10 countries in the world changed as 2014 World Cup runners-up, Argentina, climbed to the top. They ended Belgium’s five-month reign at the summit of the rankings. Belgium are now second while Chile, Colombia and Uruguay complete the top five.

Pinnick Has No Reason To Resign – Ogba

by Christopher Okobi

As Senate Summons Sports Minister, NFF

Tony Ezimakor ABUJA

Senator Obinna Ogba, Chairman, Senate Committee on Youth and Sports , has dismissed pressure mounted on Amaju Pinnick, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to resign following Nigeria’s consecutive ouster from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Senator Ogba, a former board member of the football federation, said the call is misplaced especially if consideration is accorded the effort made by the current NFF leadership to ensure that Nigeria qualifies for the 2017 AFCON tournament.

He said the call would have been sustained had the federation ignored certain ingredients that would enhance the chances of the team, pointing out that from the vantage position he occupies, the leadership did what they ought to do, yet failed to qualify.

” I want to appeal to you journalists, because you people can make or mar football in this country. You Journalists should support the football house for it to move forward. Some people are calling for Amaju’s resignation. I don’t know how; resign for what? For not qualifying? How many times have you asked the president to resign because of the fuel scarcity? He was elected to serve four years. It’s you people that said he was elected.

He insisted that the board under Pinnick has done it’s best in the circumstance, deploying his contacts and personal resources at the disposal of the Federation to ensure success of the AFCON qualifiers.

According to the Ebonyi State FA chairman, the board supported the coach to get all the players it needed to prosecute the double header against Egypt.

Meanwhile the Senate Committee on Sports has summoned Solomon Dalung, minister of Sports, and the Nigeria football federation to chart the way forward in the wake of the embarrassing outing at the AFCON qualifiers among other issues.
Senator Ogba disclosed that the meeting slated for Tuesday next week is expected to also take a critical look at preparations for this year’s Rio Olympic Games.

NFF not losing sleep over FIFA Ranking

Super Eagles training session in Kaduna.(Twitter/Nff)

Nigeria’s position in the latest FIFA ranking will not cause the NFF sleepless nights despite the Super Eagles dropping 5 places to 14th on the continent and are likely to face very tough competition in the 2018 World Cup draw.

In his reaction to the ranking released on Thursday, NFF Technical Committee Chairman, Barrister Christopher Green played down on its implications but admits facing up to Africa’s best for a World Cup ticket could turn out well for the Eagles.

Super Eagles still lack charisma and winning mentality – Udeze

The current Super Eagles team have huge potentials but lack charisma and the key ingredient of ‘ the winning mentality’ according to former defender, Ifeanyi Udeze.

Speaking with footballlive.ng Udeze said Nigeria lost the race for a ticket to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations because their was too much display of individual talent that team work against the Pharaohs of Egypt in the March qualifiers.

Udeze suggested there’s the need for an experienced coach who can ” blend them so they start playing as a team.”

Minister fires Pinnick - You talk too much!

Embattled NFF President Amaju Pinnick

by Samm Audu

Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung has fired a salvo at the president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, saying he should be more guarded about his public utterances.

Dalung was straight up with Pinnick during Tuesday’s consultative meeting in Abuja in the wake of Nigeria’s successive failure to qualify for the AFCON.

“The minister is no-nonsense, he simply told Pinnick to watch his public utterances, saying he appears to react to everything and everybody and it appears he does not have a spokesperson, who ought to be doing the talking on his behalf,” an official informed AfricanFootball.com

“The minister says the frequent utterances by the NFF president have worked against his image and the way he is perceived by the public.”

It would also be recalled Pinnick lost his cool and called Chris Giwa unprintable names when the minister attempted to reconcile the two personalities and their group of loyalists.

On Tuesday, a group of protesters gathered around the venue of the consultative meeting armed with placards demanding Pinnick to step down as the country’s football boss after the Eagles latest failure under his leadership.

Former Delta FA chairman Pinnick has insisted he will not quit.

Igbokwe alleges Pinnick plans to impose Ifeanyi Ubah as FA boss

NFF President Pinnick

by Samm Audu

‘Torchlight of Nigerian football’ Iyke Igbokwe has alleged NFF president Amaju Pinnick has perfected ways and means to impose billionaire owner of Nigeria league outfit FC IfeanyiUbah as the new chairman of Anambra Football Association.

“Pinnick is hell bent on installing Ifeanyi Ubah as Anambra FA chairman,” alleged Igbokwe.

“I can still recall his appeal to me that Ubah be made Anambra FA chairman.

“Rather than still be sober after another monumental failure caused by the Super Eagles crashing out of the AFCON, Pinnick has moved on and has already put in motion how Ubah will be the next Anambra FA chairman.

“It should also interest Nigerians that the issue of the Anambra FA elections is under serious criminal investigation by the Anambra police command. And so any attempt to conduct any election there will be an attempt to obstruct justice, which is a crime on its own.

“No election can take place in Anambra until the police conclude their investigations.”

He continued: “It is illegal for you to appoint the normalization committee for the FA and then now directly sponsor another candidate for the same election. It is unethical!

“I will petition both the sports minister and President Buhari in this regard.”

He further argued that Ubah has not attained the mandatory four years in football for him to be eligible office especially after the deadline for the purchase of nomination forms has long closed.

“Ubah is from the same village as me, Otolo, Nnewi, but he is not qualified to contest for the Anambra FA chairmanship. He has only been in football last year,” he stated.

"And all this is coming after his show of shame when he and his thugs beat up Heartland players."

It was further gathered that a serving senator from the southeast is now the arrowhead to ensure Ubah heads the Anambra FA after he addressed some hand-picked stakeholders at a meeting in Abuja this week.

Watford won't pressure Ighalo for survival goals

Watford Boss Flores and Ighalo

Watford manager Quique Flores has said he will not mount pressure on his top scorers Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney for goals as he has instead tasked the midfielders to push for goals.

The Watford strikers have struggled lately having been firing earlier in the season with Ighalo's last EPL goal coming on January 23 in a 2-1 win over Newcastle United.

Flores has insisted he wants more from other areas of the pitch as they fight to stay up in the Premier League after a slump in the new year.

The Watford boss said: “In this moment, we can’t put the pressure on Ighalo and Deeney. We need help from the second line. These players need to add goals.

“Our style is different. The responsibility of the players is to play from the back.

“We need to be competitive, the Premier League is very tough. We need the focus, ambition and passion.

“The players played really well in the first half of the Premier League. I thought we had achieved the level of excellence and we can recover because we did that.”

Flores is boosted by having a full squad of players available for Saturday’s home clash with Everton.

Lars Lagerback was Nigeria's last foreign Coach

by Samm Audu

Wednesday Apr 06, 2016. 17:21
Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung has made it very clear the country’s government will not pay the salaries of a foreign coach for the Super Eagles.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are pushing for a foreign coach to take charge of the Super Eagles ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, which begin in October, after the three-time African champions failed to qualify for the AFCON a second straight time.

An official informed AfricanFootball.com: “The minister made it very clear during his meeting with the NFF on Tuesday that the government will not pay for a foreign coach and he does not expect the NFF to use the subvention they receive from the government to pay such a coach.”

Another official further disclosed,” What the minister really wants is that in four weeks, the NFF will come back with how they hope to pay for a foreign coach.

“If they can prove they can afford it, he will not stop them from hiring such a coach.”

NFF president Amaju Pinnick has been quoted as saying he will get a private company to offset the salaries of a foreign coach.

The NFF had earlier announced that the salaries of Sunday Oliseh will be borne by a top commercial bank, but by the time the coach quit his post he was owed three months’ pay.

The 27-year-old missed Nigeria’s ties in the Afcon 2017 qualifiers against Egypt and he disclosed to footballlive.ng that he was on the verge of joining the Eagles in the second leg tie in Alexandria but hit a snag with his fitness.

Balogun has featured 18 times for 6th place Mainz in the league and he declared readiness to resume playing again.

5 Reasons Why Super Eagles Need Foreign Coach

After the Super Eagles failure to qualify for the 2016 African Cup of Nations in Gabon and with a substantive head coach yet to be named, Completesportsnigeria.com’s JOHNNY EDWARD offers five reasons why the Nigerian Football Federation should hire a foreign coach…

1. Battered reputation of Nigerian coaches

After the 2013 African Nations Cup triumph, the Super Eagles have had three indigenous coaches in charge and that hasn’t helped the team from a steady decline three years on.
Importantly, the reputation and tactical acumen which the foreign coach will bring to the Super Eagles will be an invaluable asset during what will presumably be a phase of restructuring.
The Nigerian coaches’ inability to qualify for the African Nations Cup for a second straight time has seen the country’s football at a crossroads. So hiring a technically sound coach could see the country instantly propelled back to the top with the right mix of talent, team bonding and NFF support.
The Super Eagles need a manager who can command the immediate attention and respect of the so-called ‘senior men’. Past coaches of the team have had issues curbing the excesses of these influential figures in the team which ultimately cost the team the AFCON ticket.
And of course not only can a foreign coach do just that, but can even inspire the likes of Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi Victor Moses, Elderson Echiejile and the emerging talents like Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho to become leaders and winners.

2. Tactics
Currently the Super Eagles don’t have a defined style of play. What has been noticed recently is that the team often times showed naivety and a lack of quality both in attack and defence and have relied heavily on some individual brilliance to pull through in recent games.
The Super Eagles need a coach who can harness the current crop of emerging talent and use them effectively in their desired roles.
For instance, Mikel Obi is a player who has been a key member of the national team for over a decade and features for one of England’s biggest clubs Chelsea and yet Mikel has never hit the heights he promised since bursting onto the scene in 2005.
Some blame his lack of tactical application in game situations and his inability to become a thinking player like the Okocha’s and Nwankwo Kanus of this world.
Having stretched the Egyptians above board in the first leg draw in Kaduna, Coach Samson Siasia team never looked like a team that had a plan B to outwit a determined and resilient Pharoahs side in Alexandra. The team needs a bench that thinks faster.

3 Nigerian coaches can’t be trusted in player selection
Under the watch of local coaches, the Super Eagles have seen players nowhere near as good as their predecessors called up to represent the country.
Whether or not it’s the local coaches who selects the players, they surely have final say, and under their tutelage Nigerians have seen players not deserving of a place in the Eagles training.
Coach Samson Siasia needed a massive campaign on Twitter to call up Nigeria’s most in- form defender Leon Balogun for in his list of 21 foreign-based players for the Egypt games but there were places for Aminu Umar, Stanley Amuzie who has played two games since recovering from a cruciate ligament injury for Portuguese Second division side Olhanese and U-23s skipper Azubuike Okechukwu who was handed his debut in a crucial game against Egypt.
Sunday Oliseh too brought in average players like Rabiu Ibrahim, Haruna Lukman, Izunna Izuchukwu and Sylvester Igboun. Stephen Keshi had his own low-standard players like Reuben Gabriel, Michael Uchebo and the like.

4. Indigenous coaches don’t know their best team
There are lots of examples of managers whose tinkering on the job works for them. It has certainly not worked for Samson Siasia and his predecessors.
At the expense of a more experienced Ogenyi Onazi and Elderson Echiejile, Siasia opted to start his inexperienced Olympic players Azubuike Okechukwu and Stanley Amuzie which cost the team in Alexandra.
He also started Moses Simon and Alex Iwobi on the bench in the second leg despite been impressive in the first leg in Kaduna. The duo would have fared better than Ahmed Musa and Aminu Umar who started.
This also happened often under Oliseh and Keshi.

5. Nigerian coaches’ inability to motivate
Past coaches have failed to motivate the invited players to the Super Eagles due to their methods in favoring one player to the other which has left most of them looking woefully short of confidence.
The past three coaches had a knack for calling up their favourites for games at the expense of players who could actually make impact in games.
That defeat to Egypt which finally nailed Nigeria was a good example of the Eagles coming off second-best in a majority of the duels; not making good use of the ball, even though they played a possession game.
In such a scenario, a motivator who employs strategies to increase team unity and create a ‘siege mentality’, which makes his teams stubborn in defence and ruthless in attack was needed. A seasoned European coach should be able to do it.

Whoever wrote this article needs to study football better. He is so illogical with his point.

Every point he made sounds ridiculous.

How can our Local coaches have battered reputations after the Successes of Coach Keshi.

Coach Oliseh can not stand as the reputation of local coaches.

Talking of tactics, Coach Siasia stood toe to toe with one of the bright brains of European Football. In the first leg, he outplayed the Egyptians and they drew with a lucky late goal after refusing to handover the ball. Ignoring fair play.

The player selection was not that poor. We had two injuries that took away the chance of making appropriate changes to change the game. Etebo and Amuzie injured. That is two changes which can affect a coach's tactical plan.

“I respect the Super Eagles players and I was edgy during the game but I’m happy we have been able to pull through. It’s a shame Nigeria won’t be at the Africa Cup of Nations,”...Hector Cuper (Egypt's Coach)

This journalists and Pinnick made it look as if it was all bad.

Is it not silly to suggest that the indigenous coaches do not know the best team and then suggest a foreign coach? How many Nigerian players do these foreign coaches watch?

Saying Nigerian coaches lack the ability to motivate is one of the most myopic things I have ever heard. Can this journalist show me a coach that can motivate their players to play for years without allowances?

Mr. Johnny (who I've followed since I was in my teens) really sounded shallow in his thoughts. I was kinda disappointed he was the writer. He mentioned a few truths here and there like players selection for instance but he also missed the whole picture on the reputation and motivational abilities of our local coaches (he forgot how Siasia won the U-23 Afcon for instance). On the whole his thoughts were just surprisingly shallow.

FANENDO ADI GOAL INSUFFICIENT FOR PORTLAND TIMBERS

Super Eagles of Nigeria 25 year old forward Fanendo Adi found the back of the net for Portland Timbers but his goal failed to gain them all three points as they were pegged back by LA Galaxy to end the tie at 1-1.

Adi scored in the 53rd minute to give his side the league but his fourth goal of the season from the first five games in the MLS was cancelled out by Nat Borchers of LA Galaxy with five minutes left to play in the encounter.

Prior to the game against LA Galaxy, he found the back of the net against Dallas,Columbus Crew and scored twice Real Salt Lake which earned him a call up to the Nigeria senior national team where he failed to make the match day squad in the back to back games against Egypt.

The scorer of 18 goals last season is well on course to better his record if he maintains his current scoring run in the league.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: NIGERIAN PLAYERS ABROAD

Carl Ikeme: Frustrated all the attempts of Blackburn Rovers to pick 3 points at Molineux, he produced couple of world class saves to deny the visitors. The peak of them was a tip over the bar at full stretch, undoubtedly man of the match.

Akeem Latifu: Played as centre back, put in a good shift and was very resolute in defending against Shakhtar Donetsk. He kept Shakhtar’s strikers at at bay, very good on ball and his confidence was top notch against Detinho and Eduardo. I liked what I saw against quality opposition and he read the game very well and made two crucial interventions to prevent goal against Stal Dniprodz, excellent display by Akeem.

Rabiu Ibrahim: Has been named in our team of the week as a left back, he inspired Trencin to valuable important win against Third placed Myjava. Rabiu created two assists and he put the ice on the cake with a goal added to his account as well. Great performance from fringe Super Eagles player.

Wilfred Ndidi: Super 90 minutes display from Ndidi and his contribution in keeping Genk’s Midfield tight was commendable, covered every blade of the grass and strong in one-on- one challenge. One of the reasons why Genk will be in Europe next season.

Kenneth Otigba: He was in beast mode against AZ, rated as one of the top performers, won the highest number of tackles for his side and always a “Russian Roulette” at set pieces, his performance was one of the reasons that made Heerenveen picked 3 points against highly rated AZ Alkmaar.

Chidozie Awaziem: Growing in confidence day-by-day, it was a joy to see him dribble pass two Pacos Midfielder’s, distributed passes like a veteran and his off the ball movement has been worked on by Prez, super dangerous at set pieces always a danger to the opponents, Won fair share of tackles for Porto and He was substituted at 75mins as a precaution, got a yellow card, decent performance from Chidozie.

Eddy Onazi: Lazio’s workhorse, he helped rejuvenated Lazio to an important away win, he had a bad spell under Stefan Pioli who got sacked and replaced by Simone Inzaghi, Onazi returned to starting line up and he churned out a decent performance, tackled well and was all over the pitch, almost had an assist, a clean start for Nigerian midfield dynamo.

Alex Iwobi: Rated as one of d best players, two super assists and an awareness that was beyond his age highlighted the story of Nigerian playmaker. He was effective in the last third, a class act in a build up play and with the ball at his feet, looked so powerful.

Ahmed Musa: He put in a good shift, a goal and two assist, helped CSKA returned to top of the table in Russian League. CSKA launched most of their offensive play through Musa and Nigerian international live up to the expectation all at occasions, burnt his opponents with pace and Off the ball movement which resulted into two assists and a goal. Excellent performance from Musa.

Bright Edomwonyi: Three goals plus an assist, clearly deserved the man of the match award. He was involved in all offensive action with 88.2% pass rate completion more than his teammates and his first goal was a beauty from an impossible angle.

Fred Friday: Two good goals that have hallmark of real poacher written over both goals, he tormented Sarpsborg’s defenders throughout the duration of the match and accidentally provided LSK’s third goal. He outmuscled three Sarpsborg’s defenders ran towards goal before his pass was intercepted towards Lillestrom’s player who tapped the ball in for goal number four, top notch performance from Fred.

BREAKING: MIDDLESBROUGH AND DERBY COUNTY LINE UP BID FOR KENNETH OTIGBA

Heerenveen of Holland are running the risk of losing their Nigerian centre back Kenneth Otigba who is reportedly being chased by English Championship side Middlesbrough and Derby County.

Otigba contracted to Heerenven till the summer of 2018 was two seasons ago linked with a move to English Premiership giants Liverpool but the move failed to materialise.

Born to Nigerian parents in Hungary, he has indicated his willingness to play for Nigeria at senior international level but he is yet to be called up by the Nigeria national team.

So far he has made 27 appearances this season with three goals to his name from his role as a central defender where he has also picked up six bookings.

He has long indicated his willingness to move to England and with Middlesbrough and Derby County both battling to gain promotion to the English Premier League, a bid in the summer might entice him if the price is right.

Derby County are sixth on the Championship table which keeps them within the promotion play offs spot while Middlesbrough are in second position battling for automatic promotion with seven games remaining.

AWURUM SCORES 14TH GOAL OF THE SEASON IN PORTUGAL

25 year old Nigerian forward Stanley Awurum enhanced his goal scoring reputation in the second division in Portugal scoring his 14th goal of the season in Varzim’s 2-2 draw against Farense.

The little known forward who was signed from Mozambique second division side Chibuito two seasons ago scored the opener for Varzim in the 17th minute but his strije wasn’t enough to end his team all three point as they ended up with just one point after the 2-2 draw.

Awurum who has 12 months to run on his current deal is heavily sought after by top teams in and outside Portugal and latest reports indicates Varzim could cash in on him in the summer.

However he is not the top scoring Nigerian in the division with Simmy Nwankwo ahead of him on 15 goals for Gil Vicente.

MFON UDOH HAT-TRICK STEERS ENYIMBA TO VICTORY OVER ETOILE DU SAHEL

Udoh went home with the match ball by scoring in the 9th,56th and 80th minute to give the People’s Elephant a healthy lead going into the return fixture in Tunisia in two weeks time.

His first came via the spot while his second was a tap in from close range with his third goal coming ten minutes from full time courtesy of a well hit right footed shot.

ELDERSON ECHIEJILE SENT OFF IN FRANCE

Super Eagles left full back Elderson Echiejile was shown the second red card of his career in a bad tempered game that ended with Monaco losing 4-1 to Lille.

Echiejile was one of the two players sent off in the game with Lille’s Renato Civelli sent off ten minutes before the dismissal of the Nigerian.

The last time he was sent off in a game was in 2013 when he was playing for Portuguese side Sporting Braga until the 65th minute of today’s game when he took the walk of shame against Lille.

In his absence, Monaco crumbled further from losing 1-0 to crashing heavily to a 4-1 loss against Lille who had Vincent Enyeama in goal for the entire duration of the game.

EXCLUSIVE: SUNSHINE STARS YET TO CLEAR PAUL ONOBI TO KuPS
April 9, 2016

Paul Onobi is still not eligible to play for Finnish Veikkausliiga side Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS), a month after signing the dotted lines for the club.

Owngoalnigeria.com exclusively gathered he is yet to receive the mandatory International Transfer Certificate (ITC) that will enable KuPS to register him.

Sunshine Stars the last team he played for in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) are yet to sanction his transfer and that has so far prevented him from playing competitive games for KuPS.

The one cap Super Eagles midfielder joined the team alongside three other Nigerians, Gbolahan Salami,Aliyu Abubakar and Azubuike Egwuekwe.

In his absence the other Nigerians at the club made their debut in KuPS shock 0-1 loss to Ilves in their first league game of the season.

AHMED MUSA HITS DOUBLE-DIGIT GOALS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON
April 9, 2016

Ahmed Musa’s goal against Mordovia Saransk in the 23rd round of games in the Russia Premier League took his season’s goal tally to 10 for the second consecutive season.

Musa scored in the 25th minute to give his team a 4-0 lead in a game they eventually won 7-1.

Aside his goal, he provided two assists for Roman Eremenko and Alan Dzagoev to keep CSKA Moscow top of the league, one point better than their closest challengers Rostov.

23 year old Musa has been in Russia since 2012 and has only once failed to score double digit in the four and half years he has spent with the Russian Champions.

However this season with seven games less than that of last he has already equaled his goal haul of 10 from just 23 games as oppose to last season when he needed 30 games to score same amount of goals.

A potential scramble for his signature will most likely happen in the summer although CSKA Moscow will be reluctant to let their prize assest leave and might even demand more than what Leicester City were asked to pay for the 23 year old during the winter transfer window.

Exclusive: Manchester City Pass Up Chance To Sign Enyimba Star Mfon Udoh

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that English Premier League moneybags Manchester City have turned down the opportunity to bring Nigeria international Mfon Udoh to The Etihad.

The Enyimba star was proposed to The Citizens by United Kingdom-based intermediary Frankie Stephen, better known as the representative of Flying Eagles striker Bernard Bulbwa.

Stephen has a good rapport with Manchester City higher-ups and helped broker the deal that took Nigeria U20 international Chidiebere Nwakali to City in 2014, and earlier offered his major client Bulbwa to the club prior to his move to CS Sfaxien.

This time around, Manchester City were uninterested in signing Mfon Udoh as he didn’t have the profile of attackers they were in the market for and would have been ineligible to be granted a work permit by the Home Office.

The 24-year-old set a record as the highest goalscorer in a single season in the Nigeria Professional Football League in 2014.

Portland Timbers DP Fanendo Adi Continues To Set Records In Major League Soccer

Fanendo Adi notched his fourth goal of the season as Portland Timbers played out a 1-1 draw with LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center on Sunday evening in Major League Soccer.

Thanks to his 52nd minute goal, the Designated Player entered the history books by equaling the record for the most goals scored by a Timbers player against a Major League Soccer team.

Fanendo Adi has played down the feat, saying it would not have been possible if not for his teammates and also claimed that he was lucky.

“You just focus on the game and come to play. Maybe I’m lucky, but I think our team played well and created chances, so the goals come,” said Fanendo Adi, according to timbers.com.

Since joining from FC Copenhagen, Adi has bagged five goals another MLS team, Real Salt Lake.

Former Super Eagles' coach, Sunday Oliseh has been appointed as a member of the Federation of International Football Association's (FIFA) technical study group (TSG).

This will make it the second time Oliseh would be appointed to TSG.

"Honoured to be appointed into the "new look" FIFA Technical Department. Next mission; The 2016 Rio Olympics Football." Oliseh said on his verified Twitter account.

Currently headed by an ex-Swiss international, Jean-Paul Brigger, the TSG's priority is to observe teams in matches and training sessions and collect information, reports of which are made available to FIFA member associations afterwards as a development tool.

Though Oliseh did not reveal the details of his appointment, his first task as a member of TSG would be at the 2016 Rio Olympics football events.

Oliseh Excited After FIFA Technical Department Appointment

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh is excited by his appointment into the Technical Department of FIFA.

Oliseh will also work at the football tournament of the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

He was part of a technical team that evaluated the Borrusia Dortmund versus Liverpool game in the Europa League quarter-finals last Thursday. He was on the trip alongside his former Eagles assistant coach, Jean Francois Loscuito.

The match between Dortmund, Oliseh's former club, and Liverpool coached by Jurgen Klopp, the former Dortmund manager, ended 1-1 at the Signal Iduna-Park Stadium.

Oliseh bared his mind on Twitter early Monday morning.

"I feel honoured to be appointed into the "new look" FIFA technical department," he wrote.

"Next mission: The 2016 Rio Olympics football tournament in Brazil. We thank God for the elevation and opportunity to represent Africa again."

The football tournament of the Rio Olympics will hold between August 3 and 20, 2016.

Answer; Impossible grin

5) When player A who is working very hard in training and performing well in his club is overlooked, ignored, despised, abandoned,....... grin for Player B who knows that without him even kicking a ball in the League, he will surely get invited and even play ahead of any inform player in the camp, what do you expect?
