How Is Gabriel Jesus Better Than Kelechi Iheanacho ? – Nigeria Coach Questions

The arrival of Gabriel Jesus at Manchester City has lead to talks about limited opportunities for Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho, but such talks have been squashed by coach of the Nigeria U19s Manu Garba.

Garba who gave Iheanacho his breakthrough with the Nigeria U-17 team of 2013 is of the opinion that not until they both play in the team, it’s not proper to say one player is better than the other.

” It’s unfair to say Jesus is better than Iheanacho, there are various factors to be considered before drawing such conclusions and for now how is Jesus better than Iheanacho?” Manu asked in an interview with Owngoalnigeria.com.

” They will battle for spots upfront and base on what the coach wants, and who suits his style and formations, sometimes game after game.

” You have to respect what Iheanacho has achieved in such a short time with Man City. A team where top stars like Wilfred Bony, Edin Dzecko and Samir Nasri struggled, he flourished, he deserves respect”.

How Long Must He Promise? – CAF Under Attack Over Choice Of Iheanacho As Promising Player Of The Year

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has been roundly criticised by social media users over the choice of Kelechi Iheanacho as Africa Promising Player of the year 2016.

Iheanacho won same award in 2013 and picked up the young player award in 2015 before winning the promising player award again last night.

CAF was roundly criticized by social media users for once again awarding him an award, he should have outgrown going by his status and club form.

Many suggested that the award was given to him to compensate Nigeria as the host of the award other than on merit as a bigger recognition best suits his status.

“Oyibo Clash” – Ebuehi Shows Versatility For ADO Den Haag In Battle Against Leon Balogun

Latest Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi came up against established Eagles man Leon Balogun as ADO Den Haag forced Mainz 05 to a 1-1 draw in a friendly tie.

Ebuehi started on the right while Balogun was introduced as a substitute as he continues to work his way back to full fitness, after shaking off the injury that kept him out of the team’s final round of games towards the end of the first stanza in Germany.

While Balogun slotted in effortlessly in his role as a central defender after coming on with his side leading 1-0, while Ebuehi who lasted the entire duration of the game played in two different roles.

He started as a right full back but ended the game as a left full back, one of the trait that coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr talked about when confirming his availability for Eagles upcoming friendly tie.

The fact that he excelled in both roles will gladden the heart of fans of Super Eagles who are concerned about the full back issues of the team, as noticed during the World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

Fit Again Germany Based Ex Flying Eagles Forward Roars Out To Rohr – I Want Eagles Action

Fit again former Nigeria U-20 ace Suleiman Abdullahi has outlined his priority for the year 2017, which include helping his team Eintracht Braunschweig gain promotion to the Bundesliga and playing for the Super Eagles.

Speaking with Owngoalnigeria.com in Kaduna shortly after the Moses Simon wedding anniversary game, the 20 year old who joined the team in the summer from Norwegian side Viking expressed his joy at being fit again.

” I’m very happy to be fit again. It’s boring when you don’t play football but one has to be patient and take set backs when they come. I have learnt that during my injury forced absence”, Abdullahi told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” This 2017 means a lot to me, it is the year where I hope to play for Nigeria that is if by the grace of God am able to help my team secure promotion to the Bundesliga. We are top now with a two point lead”.

EPL Legend Merson – Victor Moses Is As Important As Costa And Hazard To Chelsea

Former Arsenal midfield maestro Paul Merson believes Chelsea wingback Victor Moses is important to the team just like regular goal scorers Eden Hazard and Diego Costa.

The Nigerian has been tremendous this season for Chelsea with 21 appearances to his name and four goals despite playing in an unfamiliar role as a wing back.

Merson while speaking on Sky Sports credit the Nigerian for slotting into the wing back role in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system with ease despite never playing in that role in the past.

” You talk about Eden Hazard and Diego Costa but Moses has been as important as anyone in making the system work for Conte and he’s also scored some important goals”, Merson said.

” To consider he’d never played that role before is just incredible”.

New boy Ndidi starts for Leicester City at Everton

Leicester City new signing Wilfred Ndidi has been thrown into the deep end after just a handful of trainings for this afternoon’s FA Cup tie at Everton.

Ndidi, 20, barely had time to get used to his new club when he was lined up by the Premier League champions soon after he completed his 15 million pounds transfer from Belgian club KRC Genk.

He will play centrally in a five-man midfield.
Ndidi’s compatriot Ahmed Musa will start on the bench.

Another Nigerian-born star Ademola Lookman, who was signed by Everton from Charlton Athletic for 11 million pounds is not listed for this cup tie

It is good to see Nigerian players(whether playing for the Super Eagles or not) soaring in their games. That was why I was happy even when Dele Alli netted a brace against Chelsea, my erstwhile football club.

But I am a bit disappointed with Mikel's move to China at this young age, the motivation that come from high emoluments shouldn't be a major factor for someone like him with many years ahead. although he has won many trophies, but I thought securing a move to another European club will afford him the opportunity to express his real prowess especially if permitted to move forward and make major contributions to the attack with his intelligent pinpoint passes and possession football that will be of great delight to watch. Anyway, I wish him well.

Recently, I read a report of a Ghanian Player signed by Andrelecht from Asante Kotoko. No trial!!

The best players in Nigerian's premier league are either signed by North African clubs or taken on trial to obscure leagues. It appears that there is a major problem with our league. I would argue that the best Nigerian players are not there. Ifeanyi Mathew was the best midfielder in the Nigerian league but was subjected to trials in Lillestorm, Obaje is one of the highest scorers but had to go on trial with Spartak Moscow.

When we had Manu's under 20 side play with our best league teams, it exposed the quality of our league. Kids were running rings around experienced professionals.
Emphasising on making the average age of our league Footballers to be so young, I agree. That way the process of 'from Street to team' would be so fast that before you know it, money will spin. But as they say, older age doesn't mean more wisdom. Myopic stakeholders run our football.
