Reports just reaching us from Ekiti state indicate that
the 19 All Progressive Congress (APC) lawmakers
pushing for the impeachment of the state governor,
Ayo Fayose have been dealt with by the officials of the
Nigerian army.
The nineteen APC members of the Ekiti State House of
Assembly were on Tuesday barred from entering Ado-Ekiti,
the state capital by soldiers, The Nation reports.
It was gathered that the lawmakers, who were led by their
Speaker, Rt. Hon. Wale Ominrin, were allegedly stopped at
Itawure by armed soldiers carrying out order from the
above.
The majority leader of the House, Hon. Churchil Adedipe,
who was in company of eighteen other members at a press
briefing in Osogbo, gave a graphic illustration of how they
were stopped by the soldiers even when police officers
were ready to escort them into the state.
According to him, the lawmakers had earlier notified the
police about their coming into the state for their legislative
duties.
Adedipe, who vowed that they would not be prevented
from impeaching the state governor over allegations of
constitutional breaches said, he suspected that the soldiers
that stopped them from entering Ado-Ekiti were acting on
directives from Brig. Gen. Aliyu Momoh commanding 32
Artillery Brigade, Akure.
He said for over two hours, the soldiers stopped them from
proceeding to Ado Ekiti, disclosing that information
gathered by some of the lawmakers who made calls to
people waiting for them at the state house assembly
revealed that Governor Fayose had imported thugs to the
premises of the Assembly.
The opposition lawmakers expressed fears that the
governor might send thugs to attack them as well as burn
their houses in order to stop them from the impeaching
him, but assured him that any moment from now, they will
be going back to Ado Ekiti.
Speaking earlier, Omirin, said Fayose has committed
impeachable offences and would definitely be impeached.
He said the nineteen legislators had fixed their sitting for
Tuesday to continue legislative activities on the
investigation into allegations made against the governor but
Fayose sent soldiers and thugs to stop the lawmakers from
sitting.
“Despite officially writing the Commissioner of Police, Taiwo
Lakanu, informing him of our sitting, Governor Fayose, his
Special Adviser on Political Matters and Commissioner for
Works still led thugs into the premises of the assembly to
disrupt activities there,” he said.
