THE POWER OF PRAISE

Praise is a powerful device divinely established by God as not only weapon to fight the devil but as a way of bringing down the divine presence of God into the heart of men, their gatherings and like to receive from God. When prayers seem tarrying, try praise. When you pray, God send the answers speedily but through an angel. However, when you praise God, you are inviting God Himself. Wow! This is great!

The popular book in the bible that deeply discussed praise is the book of Psalm and in this book, the chapter 136th gives in-depth explanation on what praise does and how it works. Praise is the act of appreciation that is directed to someone in reference to what he/she has done or to make him realize how grateful we are which invariably move the person to do more. Praises may be in the form of singing, chanting, demonstration of action (body movement), acknowledgement, words, etc.

WHY DO WE PRAISE GOD
People at a time or the other have ‘whys’ for praise God. It could be any of these or more:
• For who He is – our creator, our father, our all in all, etc (Ps 95, 103:1-3)
• It is our reasonable and acceptable service (Rev 4:
• For great things He has done and still doing (Ps 105, 98:1-2)
• For saving us, sparing us, protecting us and guarding us (Ps 107:1-3)
• For His faithfulness, mercy and loving-kindness (Ps 100:4-5, 108:3-5)

THE WORKS OF PRAISE
These include the following:
• It makes God rejoice and happy (II Sam 5:17ff)
• It moves God’s hand (Joshua 6:20)
• It breaks chains and bring about breakthrough (Paul and Silas, Acts 16:25ff)
• It brings about total victory over the devil, trials and temptations
• It fills the person’s heart with joy (Daniel in II Sam 5:17ff)
• It settles mind during the storms of life
• It gives peace to the heart
• It does not give chance to evil thought
• It works like prayer and even more
• It portrays our heart problem when sung out and God knows our burden
• It heals mental disorderliness (Saul in I Sam 18:10ff)
• It brings spiritual growth
• It helps to know the deep works of God
• It brings a person’s heart close to God i.e. it elevates us in the spirit
• It chases away unwholesome fear
• It provides ways for meeting our needs (God supplies when we learn to praise Him)
• It quickens God’s manifestation
• It makes one to receive God’s favour quickly

DANGERS OF NOT PRAISING GOD
• It makes one to stay too long in a problem
• It allows fair to grip one’s heart
• It makes one to be surrounded by sadness and as a result tormented
• It allows evil plans and though to position themselves in one’s heart
• It brings shame and reproach (when Israelite refuse to praise God in the bible)
• It brings downfall (Esther 1:1-22, Vashti)
• It reverses wars that had been won or overcame
• It does not allow one to know the magnitude and greatness of God
• It portrays one as a bad child before God, our Father

In Deut 28:47-48, the following are the consequences of failing to praise God. They include:
• One shall serve his enemies
• One will remain in severe problems: hunger, thirst, unclothedness, etc
• One will be wanting or lacking every good things of life
• Big yoke of iron will be placed upon one’s shoulder or neck

In conclusion, we must learn to praise God, not for only what such will do for us but also for whom God is.
