Well, expanding on my previous post

1.We need to make all tertiary hospitals public private. That means increased fees....but that makes them able to generate extra funds.

2.We should also allow hospitals raise money themselves....maybe as non-profit organisations (OAUTH, UITH, ABUTH, UNTH, etc could come together and set up a Hospital trust fund...to raise money).

3.Hopstials could be run as trusts....into which companies would contribute money

4.We have to raise taxes too....and not only to get cash for hospitals.

5.The bulk of government funding can be spent on primary and secondary healthcare...now that tertiary hospitals have alternative sources of funding.

6.Why not spend more on Schools that train CHEW/SHO/...to work on the frontlines in the rural areas.

7.We need more consultants and more residents.

8.Involve the Private Sector more.

You re the best.

If a quarter of Nigerians had what you have in your skull, Nigeria would have been a better place.

Health Insurance for Nigerians will go a long way to solve this menace

Simple. If you don't have it you will not be served. Nigerians must begin to take personal responsibility for the quality of their lives. Enough of big government.

Thanks too for insulting GEJ's government because the doctors too went on strike during his government well well.

And they got an agreement the last time they went on strike....which GEJ did not fulfill , and ran off and left in the hands of Buhari last year.

Besides, What do you think the government should do to adequately fund hospitals.? I think that is what we should be talking about here. Methinks that you do not have any ideas on the matter.(My ideas are above)
must we continue to compare the last administration with our so called chain oh change, is that not the reason why the confuse people like u.

We(Nigeria) are in a tough spot financially.....so the govt cannot fund medical doctors salaries adequately.

The problem is...there is a solution, and that involves increasing hospital fees, making tertiary hospitals public private and cutting costs in most hospitals too.

But those solutions are not politically popular.

I suppose we could increase hospital allocations. Especially in view of the budget's sad decisions. But let's be honest.....our tertiary hospitals need far more money than the government can give. We import most vital hospital equipment, and we also have to spend money on training., among other things.
Better yet, we can look into upgrading traditional medicine. All this herbalists u see around fit give all this medical doctors a run for their profession

10,000 health care centres, at d end of d day northerners will have 8,000 while d easterners will have 200, while d west will hav 15000, and d south will hav 300, who is fooling who? just d way we are suffering from fuel scarcity now that buhari has started dumping fuel back to d north to replace the one Jonathan emptied which they had kept for their reserve in many more years to come, that is d real cause of d fuel scarcity. the northe recieved 70percent of d fuel brought in into d country this week while d west and d south east has to continue to suffer, buhari president for d northerners only.

are yous sure they should go on strike? Imagine a member of your family( God forbid) gets rushed to the hospital and because you were advocating for strike the patient was left outside in the sun or rain! how would you feel. There are civilized way of doing things, The president has pleaded for time to resolve this and we are just so impatient with everything.... kai this country self... i feel some people should be shipped to the sea and left to sail to another country. PATIENCE brings Success

But this government is clearly a socialist leaning one with planned handouts and all manner of subsidies and economic protectionist policies it projects. How does it bridge this image gap of giving with one hand and taking with the other. Buhari remains an establishment figure and still strongly believes in an oil based economy, hoping prices will rise in order to create prosperity with good management rather that one based on the strengths and collective wills of the populace to produce their way to wealth. I can't see it happen with this government.

Employing more primary health care workers like CHEWs and CHOs into the existing PHC centers is better than building new once that will not work. Preventive medicine is really the answer to existing community health problems. Reviewing SURE-P Programme could be the starting point.

Re: Buhari Begs Doctors Not To Go On Strike by ohzee(f): 9:16am On Apr 08, 2016
Funding funding and more funding is what tertiary hospitals need. NHIS should be revamped as a matter of national urgency else we are going nowhere. Private employers must ensure their workers have health insurance.
Once the funding is in place, things will improve.

Building 10,000 non-sustainable PHC centres is not the answer. We don't even have enough health workers to staff them. Go to the rural areas, empower the already existing health centres whether public or private. Let them partner with govt and monitor them closely.

Let the tertiary health centres be run as such. They should stop handling basic care.
