25% (A Quarter) Of All Cars In Nigeria Are Found In And Around Lagos - FRSC by scholes0(m): 3:22pm On Apr 19, 2016

The Acting Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) revealed that their data shows that one quarter of the total number of cars in Nigeria are found in Lagos.

The official, Michael Olapade, revealed this during an official visit along with a team of other FRSC officials at the Lagos State House of Assembly. He further stressed that the number of deaths recorded daily on highways through road accidents was far more than the number of deaths from the dreaded Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, AIDS.

“The number of these units are not enough to complement the efforts of other traffic agencies like LASTMA and VIO,” he said.
Olapade, who recalled the death of Minister of State for Labour and Employment, James Ocholi, his wife and son following an auto crash along Abuja-Kaduna road, noted: “the lives of our youth are being lost on daily basis. “Many people talk of AIDS as most deadly, FRSC do not believe this when you talk of number deaths, road accidents are higher.” “We want to partner with all the people that are important to the people so that we will save lives for Nigeria to be better.”

He said the collaboration of the FRSC with agencies of the state government had helped to increase the revenue of the state generated from defaulting motorists. While appealing for more support from the House, Olapade stated that the number of units and equipment for the organisation are inadequate. He pointed out that the institution in Lagos has 15 units and one sector command. In his reaction, the Speaker said the House appreciates the good job so far carried out by the men of the FRSC.He however urged for efforts to curtail the activities of bad eggs in the organisation who extort money from motorists.

“You should monitor the activities of your men, there are roads that can’t be categorized as either federal or state road some of your men do go to extort money from motorists,” Obasa said urging the institution to intensify efforts on enlightenment and campaigns against road accidents.

This is not surprising. reasons below.

1: Lagos is the former capital of Nigeria.
2: Huge population because it is the economic and commercial capital.
3. Lagos has all of the functional seaports in Nigeria. (The Onne-Rivers port and Warri port are only used for oil-related shipments). Every non-oil shipments come in through Lagos eg cars, trucks, keke-napeps etc
4: They treat Lagos as if its the only state in Nigeria, basically everything is sited there causing migration.

So why won't Lagos have a quarter of the cars in Nigeria?

This is for those trying to justify the fact that during the height of fuel scarcity recently, 160 fuel tankers (80%) were allotted to 3 geo Political zones of the the North, while just 40 (20%) was reserved for the SW including Lagos.... Now you all see why the injustice of Northern nepotism and injustice in nigeria must stop.
160 Fuel Tankers Allocated To The North, 40 To The South-West

And 50% in the South West, and then 75% in the South.
25% In the entire North Including Abuja.

Amberon11:
This is not surprising. reasons below.

1: Lagos is the former capital of Nigeria.
That status has been lost since 1991. That is like a quarter of a century ago, and since the 1980's when the construction of Abuja officially began, Lagos has suffered massive neglect and infrastructure has been left to decay, causing extensive strains on environmental and social infrastructures.

2: Huge population because it is the economic and commercial capital.
Economic/commercial same naani......but rural-Urban migration is a basic fact of 21st century planet earth.... By 2020, more than 70% of nigerians will be living in Urban areas. Most other States/urban areas of the country are doing very little to attract this drift of population flow towards their side. How many of them even have Business and Investment forums to tap into the international community of investors? Most of them are waiting for the FG to come and do everything..... It shouldn't be like that.

3. Lagos has all of the functional seaports in Nigeria. (The Onne-Rivers port and Warri port are only used for oil-related shipments). Every non-oil shipments come in through Lagos eg cars, trucks, keke-napeps etc
Add to that Cotonou, lome and Tema sea ports. More than 70% of all products shipped to Cotonou for example, finds its way into Nigeria either directly or indirectly through smuggling. And this is because even the Tin Can and Apapa ports are suffering neglect and they lack the Size. If even Lagos ports can be neglected by FG ,what state do you honestly think other national ports are going to be in...

4: They treat Lagos as if its the only state in Nigeria, basically everything is sited there causing migration.
Who is the "They" .... because if you mean the Federal Government, you are getting it all wrong, and infact, Lagos and the West are being massively shortchanged by Nigeria, considering their importance and the value of what they give out.
The majority of investments and other benefits Lagos is enjoying today is majorly private driven through the very efforts put into "capitalizing Lagos" by the Lagos state government to make sure than a conducive environment for investment is obtained and maintained.
