YABATECH Accuses Ex-bursar, Others Of Stealing N1.6bn by nwaire: 6:02pm On Apr 21, 2016
Authorities of the Yaba College of Technology have accused Mr. Olu Ibirogba, a former bursar of the institution, and seven other members of staff of stealing N1.6bn belonging to the institution.
The college leadership, which made this known, said the money was allegedly stolen between 2008 and 2013 when Ibirogba was the bursar of the school.
It posted the report on its website on April 18, 2016.
The accused persons, the college added, carted away both the software and hard copies of records of payment and other records from the Student Account Section of the bursary.
But dismissing the allegation on Wednesday, the former bursar described the report as false and mischievous.
According to him, the allegation is created to cover up the misdeeds of the college Rector, Dr. Kudirat Ladipo.
Ibirogba had earlier petitioned the Presidency and the nation’s anti-graft agencies, accusing the rector of corruption.
Specifically, the former bursar and other co-accused had in a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari, dated June 10, 2015, and entitled, ‘Large scale stealing and victimisation by YABATECH authorities: Appeal for intervention so that we are not silenced; accused the rector of engaging in corrupt practices.

For instance, they noted that the Governing Council of the school approved N5m monthly security vote for the rector, an allegation the latter had denied.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu, had last December also set up probe panels to visit YABATECH and some other tertiary institutions, whose leadership had been accused of financial and administrative abuses.
Some of the institutions are the Federal University, Dustin-Ma, Katsina State; Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State; University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State; Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State; and the University of Abuja.
Others are the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State; the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State; the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State; and the University of Calabar, Cross River State.
The panels submitted their reports in January.
Stakeholders, including the Civil Liberties Organisation, had urged the President to make public the reports of investigating panels set up to examine the allegations levelled against some these vice-chancellors and rectors.
