Saraki’s Trial: 17 Political Parties Ask CCT Judge To Resign by SpeakforBS2016: 2:16am On Apr 28, 2016
Seventeen registered opposition political parties on Wednesday demanded the immediate resignation of the presiding judge of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Danladi Umar, for his alleged compromise and bias in the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The political parties also faulted the recent clearance of justice Umar from alleged corruption charges, saying, “the only way President Buhari could prove that his government is indeed more serious about fighting corruption is to direct an immediate investigation into the circumstances that led to the EFCC issuing this so-called letter of clearance to Mr. Danladi.”

Similarly, a rights group under the aegis of Coalition of Civil Society and Pressure Groups, have decried the occupation of the National Assembly by a group known as #OccupyNASS, alleging political motive behind the protest.

However while addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, the national chairman of Labour Party, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, who spoke on behalf of the parties, alleged that it has become clearer that Justice Danladi Umar, has become an interested party in the case, hence, he should step down from the Saraki trial.

Some of the political parties represented at the conference include; Labour Party, LP, PPN, AA, MPPP, NCP, DPP and ADC among others.

“We believe his continued stay on the bench while this defendant is appearing before the Tribunal supports the conspiracy theory that there is an agenda to convict Dr. Saraki by all means. President Buhari needs to act now, not to stop Saraki’s trial but to ensure that the process of fighting corruption does not end up being even more corrupt than the corruption it seeks to eliminate.”

Umar should just step down let another person handle this saraki's case, we are tired of the attention it's getting where as more important issues that needs to be debated are totally ignored, Nigeria is in dire need of a swift economic revitalization because everything looks gloomy at the moment. God bless our nation...

Umar who isn't under trial should step down for a well documented corrupt leach to walk away free.

From Kwara to Panama his breath reeks of faeces.

These political parties who sold their 'votes' to PDP during the last elections as attested to by Olu Falae appear to be testing the resolve of the Nigerian masses.

Should the game kickoff, they would surely rue the day they made any suggestions.

A word is good enough.

You can't even pretend to be neutral so other gullible Nairalanders can reason with you not knowing that you are just struggling for your daily bread.

Umar should step down for a Judge that can be manipulated.

What a shame.

Foolish people will stone or burn or cut off the hand of a poor man who steam handset without blinking but calling for a Judge to resign because in their words "He is a thief and can not try a thief" really!

Pls nobody is saying saraki should not face prosecution or jailed if found wanting on corruption but a judge without blemish should handle d case.Umar case with efcc is still pending bcs anti corruption agency said they have not finished their investigation. It is better for another judge to take over than to gives saraki loopholes to fight back.

I think what you seek is a technical way to stall the trial.

Nobody is fooled.

As long as your suggestions do not include Saraki stepping down it smacks of bias.

You cannot go around digging dirt on a trial judge as a means of defending long years of graft you are associated with.

The judge has a single allegation against him which long before this government came into power he got a no-case-to-answer notice.

The senate president who has tons of allegations from Kwara to Panama should however keep his seat?

I'm sorry since many choose to stand logic on its head no reasonable person would follow, this case would continue with the same trial judge.

Saraki would be convicted.

He would take the matter to the appeal court and once again the verdict would simply be for judgement to be upheld.

Saraki has chosen the most unreasonable path and that path must lead to his destruction.

Why has Saraki not stepped down as senate president?

You are calling for a judge that has not been indicted of any charges, not been charged and has no pending investigation to step down from Saraki's trial yet you say nothing about the refusal of Saraki who has been indicted and has an ongoing trial, and is still serving as senate president. Isn't that double standards?

The fact is Saraki wants Umar out of the way so they can influence the trial. It sickens me when I see young Nigerians supporting this kind of behaviour and still hope for a better Nigeria

SpeakforBS2016,

Which bow? Where? Na wah for misrepresentation ooo!

You will cease to speak for Bull Shyte at the end of today, when the latest attempt to stall this case is dumped into the bin like all others before it...

You lots are beyond ridiculous, Umar who has no case established against him should stand down while a formally charged SP that has brought the senate to disrepute should continue, right

The attempt by Saraki to
A. Continue to stall proceedings.

B. Choose a pliable judge.... will not work!!! #checkmate.

All he needs to do is to prove how he came by his unexplainable riches & other charges, that shouldn't be hard since he is only being "persecuted"..dazall

They said resent clearance... Naija, people can turn facts just in a matter of seconds to suit their biding, the EFCC found no sufficient evidence to prosecute UMAR, d@s was d reason for the letter of clearance, and the said letter was issued in March last year, even before Saraki, Buhari and d host of others came into power, nd the letter was written by the then EFCC boss Larmode Ibrahim, and not Magu, and the letter was addressed to Adoke, who was the Attorney General, during GEJ regime. And for the record the EFCC is not the Prosecution in this case but the CCB. I'm not calling UMar a saint, Saraki has refused to resign his post, as Senate President, facing trials in d docks, nd still presiding over planery sessions in d hallowed chambers,... Umar should remain der, when he is done with his judgement, Saraki or any aggrieved party for that matter can proceed to the APpeal Court period.. Let the guy do his job, no be today d allege bribe take place, 2012 I guess from then till now, they could not call for his resignation, bunch of CoWards nd Fools..

Umar should bow down for Saraki who has yet to resigned his seat in the senate in the face of heavy corruption allegations and charges against him. This is one of the ways the elite has been decimating our judiciary. This time around, this is not going to work.
