To the best of my knowledge, abia doesn't have a website but I happen to know who is working on it. Unfortunately, he wasn't paid due to the political problems of the governor (orji being sacked or something like that) at the time so he dumped the idea.

I hope it can get renewed cos based on what he showed me, it would blow pretty much all the other state website out of the water smiley

Men some of those nigerian state sites are priceless

Different states have different link
       .gov.ng        .net        .org         .com
At least all states or the FG should push for all state to use .gov.ng

There should be no shortcut into building a website that functions as it is intended. People should learn to spend the money on creating decent websites.

If the guy working on the website was only going to spend his time and energy developing the website then why did he stop instead of completing the project and looking for a state to sell the website to?

If web developers just wait for paying clients all the time things may be slower than they should be because they are a lot of people looking for web projects and nothing guarantees that you will get a project to do based on merit.

How about web developers spending time and energy developing solutions to common everyday or business problems?

I once made over N400,000.00 by just changing a few text, images and minor change in layout in less than 4 or 5 days just because someone came across a website I setup as a pet project and realized that most of the features he needed were implemented on the website.

I don't know how to state this again but I find it hard to understand why we cannot put our skills to good use. After all those behind youtube, yahoo, myspace, twitter etc don't wait for clients to pay for web projects.

Well said. Not to commit the crime of generalization, but when some of us (I included) do something other than looking for jobs, it is to download smf, phbb, free dating scripts AND TEMPLATES!!! cool cool and when we are corrected by a well meaning Nigerian such as your Good self, we insult their mothers and fathers down to their third generations. To quote a guy in anoda thread https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-300141.0.html

"No need to reinvent the wheel. its utter stupidity to come up with something from scratch when the job as been done for you" or sumtin lk dat

I dont know how facebook, twitter, myspace et all do it. But i have been searching the web for the smf, TEMPLATE OR JOOMLA CMS they used in launching their startups but till date i have not been successful (pls correct me, with proof, if i am wrong). I GUESS THAT MAKES THEM EXTREMELY STUPID?

Can you please break down your questions to simple questions so I can attempt to answer them?

Afam, I think he is on your side.

He is just lamenting that some respected developers (even on this site) believes its no use creating dynamic stuffs anymore since ning, smf, phbb etal has done all that.

Havent you seen his quote? I was dissapointed the day I saw that post from one of us here.

My question to him was an honest one. I am very thorough and would rather ask a question than assume I understood something.

I needed to be sure of his questions before answering them.

You may help me rephrase the questions and I will answer them. I don't have any issues with him so it is nothing personal. Even some of my clients tell me I ask a lot of questions and I usually tell them it is better to ask than to assume because some assumptions may just be wrong.

@remoranger,

I am not really sure how to proceed. Please, ask your questions again and I will respond to them. Sorry for any misunderstanding or inconveniences.

Wasn't really asking a question. Just reading a chapter from my web development book called WEB LAMENTATIONS
Inside the book people who should know better believe pure web development is dead and now believe in copycatting, downloading, modifying and general wholesale unprofessional ism.

No wahala. I wasn't too sure myself that was why I responded the way I did earlier.

There are thousands of processes begging to be transformed into software. Web programming is not dead and in fact will remain very relevant in a long long time because it is the programmer that can do things like machine to machine or human to machine etc.

Take care.

Yep,

I see our craft surviving for at least another 10 years - during the dot com burst, I think what e-businesses discovered is that you can't maintain economies of scale by having pple work in "silos" or doing just one thing (like say, html only) so when the economy got better, the in-thing was one person doing more than one thing thus saving the business money. My prediction with the current meltdown is that more and more, businesses will look to save even more by pushing more and more online. Sure, it will move other ppl out of work (in which case, they should start now to adapt by picking up other skill sets) but for us, that means more and more work for years to come.
