Sultan Reacts To Benue, Enugu Killings, Says Blaming Fulani Herdsmen ‘”absurd” by ozoigbondu: 3:58pm On May 01, 2016
sultan
An organisation led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has described as “absurd” and “unfortunate” the widespread insinuation that Fulani herdsmen are responsible for the attacks on villagers in Benue, Enugu, Nasarawa and other parts of the country.
The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, a coalition of several Islamic groups in Nigeria, stated this on Sunday. The Sultan is the head of the JNI.
In the statement, signed by Khalid Aliyu, the organisation’s secretary-general, the JNI said it was shocked by the attacks.
“Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) received with great shock and deep concern the news of incessant killings and maiming of innocent lives and the destruction of public and private properties.
“Of particular concern are the brutal murders of people in Agatu-Benue state, Nnibo-Enugu state and some parts of Nasarawa state.
“It is indeed alarming that within few weeks, deadly attacks were reportedly unleashed while the perpetrators go un-arrested. JNI therefore condemns in strong terms these repeated heinous attacks and once again calls on the relevant security agencies to brace up to the trends, in order to put a stop to this ugly tide, as human lives are sacred and must be seen to be treated as so,” the statement said.
The JNI said the attacks were criminal in nature and should be treated as such.
“The repeated heinous acts of attacks are crimes against the citizenry and the perpetrators are therefore criminals and must be treated so.”
Foramfera
It, however, said the attacks were not carried out by Fulani herdsmen.
“It is indeed absurd and most unfortunate that certain groups or people ascribe the incidence on ethnic and/or religious premise and to whimsically apportion blame in order to batter the gradual restoration of peace and security in Nigeria,” it said.
The JNI, which commiserated with the victims of the attack, also called for “concerted introspection and commitment by relevant agencies to take proactive and effective measures in addressing this pernicious problem.”
Nigerians have condemned the attacks; and affected communities have blamed security agencies for not protecting them against their attackers who they said were herdsmen. Many Nigerians have also blamed President Muhammadu for not acting strongly enough to condemn the attacks and arrest the perpetrators.
Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, who criticised the presidency’s response, stated that “I have yet to hear this government articulate a firm policy of non-tolerance for the serial massacres that have become the nation’s identification stamp.”
The JNI, however, said the authorities have absolved the herdsmen, mainly of Fulani ethnicity, of involvement in the attacks. The JNI’s claim is contrary to that of a leader of the Fulani herdsmen who admitted to PREMIUM TIMES that they carried out the attack in Benue as a retaliation to the murder of some of their leaders
“Well, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State has debunked the rumours, likewise the Inspector General of Police has also debunked the insinuations over those being blamed,” the JNI said.
Read the JNI’s full statement below:
PRESS RELEASE
JAMA’ATU NASRIL ISLAM (JNI) CONDEMNS THE HEINOUS REPEATED ATTACKS IN NIGERIA AND CAUTIONS ON RUMOURS SPREADING
Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) received with great shock and deep concern the news of incessant killings and maiming of innocent lives and the destruction of public and private properties. Of particular concern are the brutal murders of people in Agatu-Benue state, Nnibo-Enugu state and some parts of Nasarawa state. It is indeed alarming that within few weeks, deadly attacks were reportedly unleashed while the perpetrators go un-arrested. JNI therefore condemns in strong terms these repeated heinous attacks and once again calls on the relevant security agencies to brace up to the trends, in order to put a stop to this ugly tide, as human lives are sacred and must be seen to be treated as so.
JNI and indeed all Nigerians, view the fall out of these repeated attacks, particularly the taking up of arms against other citizens as another trend of insecurity that portends grave danger to the Nation. We must not forget so soon the adverse effect of the so called Boko Haram group, that claimed the lives of many thousands innocent lives. Hundreds have been abducted, the males forced into insurgency and the females into slavery. Millions more are wallowing in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Nigeria and in Refugee Camps in neighbouring countries. Public and private properties worth trillions of Naira have been destroyed.
We therefore call for a thorough investigation by appropriate agencies in order to fish out the evil perpetrators, bring them to justice and forestall re-occurrence. The repeated heinous acts of attacks are crimes against the citizenry and the perpetrators are therefore criminals and must be treated so. It is indeed absurd and most unfortunate that certain groups or people ascribe the incidence on ethnic and/or religious premise and to whimsically apportion blame in order to batter the gradual restoration of peace and security in Nigeria. Well, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State has debunked the rumours, likewise the Inspector General of Police has also debunked the insinuations over those being blamed.
We must thus be cautious of packaging crimes on religious and ethnic garments. Crimes are abominable and whoever commits them is criminal. Security agencies should brace up in being proactive and utilize maximally intelligence reports in order to nip-in the board possible eruptions of security problems within and around communities.
Painfully, His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, JNI, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, on behalf of Nigerian Muslims, condoles the families of those who lost their lives and sympathies with all affected victims, and also calls for concerted introspection and commitment by relevant agencies to take proactive and effective measures in addressing this pernicious problem http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/202714-sultan-reacts-benue-enugu-killings-says-blaming-fulani-herdsmen-absurd.html

This whole fulani madness will bring about a civil war in Nigeria. This time around the Middle Belt would not support the core North this time around. Nobody prays for war but I'm sick and tired of the excesses of these fulani herdsmen.

The South needs to come to a roundtable discussion to form militia groups irrespective of our ethnicities and arm these groups with AK47s, Rocket launchers, Mortars and with all forms of sophisticated weapons. Whether we like it or not, a war is coming and the sooner we prepare the better for us in order not to be caught off guard.

The greatest problem of the nation is nothing else but ethnoreligious bias mentality in all our issues. How on earth will this oga sultan only jump out to exonerate his kins men in the means of such grievous act with out showing any sympathy for the souls lost.

I think sultan is a religious leader and should always stand for and in defense of truth without taking sides.

May God help us.

if anyone ask why I hate Nigeria.

I abhor any form of criminality and violence.
Nobody has the right to take the live of another person ( not even the state), covet another man's property or take what is not yours.
Above all else, I hate backwardness or the mentality that results in backwardness.
Just today, in a news, a state in the north conducted mass wedding.
If people cannot afford to pay for their wedding ( how much is court wedding), how are they going to take care of their children?

The Facts

Herdsmen of the fulani stock are responsible for all the mass killing genocide that is going on in the middle belt.
They are also known for invading farms.
This is criminality and terrorism rolled into one.

Ok.

That was how Jonathan denied that MEND carried out the Eagle Square bombing and Massob later came out to claim the attack.

The Sultan and his bunch of jokers in the JNI are denying that the dastardly attacks were carried out by Fulanis and here we are with the spokesperson for the Fulanis claiming they carried out the attack in Benue as a form of retaliation.

The so called Sultan is meant to be Head of all Muslim faithfuls in the country. Will he have rushed to the press to deny the involvement of Yoruba Muslims, or Hausa Muslims or Nupe Muslims or Kanuris Muslims etc if the allegation was levied against such?

He was quick to deny the involvement of the Fulanis because he is trying to protect the heritage of his grandfathers from Fouta Jallon.

So, don't blame Fulani herdsmen, but Fulanis are the ones with nomadic cattle rearing profession going to cities, towns, villages and scoping up all green grass, because they believe they have a constitutional power to bring cattle into somebody's farm and eat up his produce.

The soltan or whatever he calls himself should bury his head in shame, are the Mayetti Allah cattle rearers association not acknowledging these incidents?
Who has consistently bailed, or caused to be released from jail all herdsmen arrested over the past years.
Finally, if they are not Fulanis, why call for grazing fields for foreigner in our lands?

This video doesn't confirm anything. You listed a lot of atrocities committed by whoever and you pinned everything on Fulani herdsmen without any proof nor evidence. Now I ask you; Is that right? Anyway this whole fulani/farmers fracas has become stale. People always portray the Fulani herdsmen as the villains while absorbing the farmers of any atrocious acts. And this has always being the problem. Nobody wants to look at the issue holistically, but everyone wants to politicize the unfortunate events. Do you know that some farmers secretly kill Fulani herdsmen even without any provocation? These things do happen often but the media always suppress such news.
