FOLLOWING the continuous killing spree by suspected Fulani herdsmen, the National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, Otunba Gani Adams, has called for the creation of state police to curb the menace across the nation.
This came as Yoruba Youth Council, YYC, condemned the open support by Northern governors to the series of attacks carried out by Fulani herdsmen in some parts of the country.
Adams also said that Nigeria needs to be restructured to overcome its present travails.
Otunba Adams, who spoke to newsmen during the marking of his 46th birthday ceremony at Ikeja, Lagos, said, “At the national conference in 2014, we recommended state police in every state, we recommended ways we could handle conflicts in every state based on their culture and system but they were all rejected because some powerful people did not want it.”
On its part,YYC, through its National President, Eric Oluwole and Publicity Secretary Oladeinde Dare, after an emergency meeting yesterday, said: “We considered the position of the Northern governors and their leaders on the criminal display of Fulani herdsmen as an attestation to the colonization agenda of the Fulani people on Southerners.”

The menace of the Fulani herdsmen just buttresses the need for state police. The central policing system has failed and there is a need to replace it with community policing system. The police and other sister security agencies can no longer deal with the hydra headed security challenges ailing this nation. State police is the only way out of this security quagmire. We have spent too much time dwelling on its disadvantages which has made us lose sight of the advantages it holds.

Financial problems most likely. Alot of people who come here to talk trash need a faceless forum to vent out their frustrations, which if you ask me is a good thing because at least they are probably not venting it out offline.
