Confusion As South West PDP Issues Conflicting Outcome Of Caucus meeting by hayzee545(m): 7:15pm On May 04, 2016
As the National Convention of the of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) draw nearer, crack in South West zone of the Party is becoming more glaring, as the two factions in the party held their caucus meeting at the separate venues, and issuing different communique.

While details of the event at both venues is still sketchy as the time of filling this report, the two communique below tell more about what is to come, as the zone battle for positions in May 21 convention.

1) COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY, SOUTH WEST LEADERS MEETING HELD AT THE ONDO STATE INTERNATIONAL CULTURE AND EVENTS CENTRE (THE DOME) AKURE, ONDO STATE, ON 4TH MAY, 2016.

Preamble The Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in South West Nigeria held a consultative meeting at the Ondo State International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome) Akure, Ondo State, on 4th May, 2016.

Delegation at the meeting included the top leadership of the PDP from Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti and Ondo States, as well as the Governors of Ondo and Ekiti States. Also present were special guests of South West extraction from the academia, elder statesmen, public sector practitioners, professionals, youths and students.

The meeting discussed, among other things, the urgent need to re-energise the structure of the PDP in all the South West states and Nigeria at large. At the end of the deliberation, we the leaders of the PDP in the South West resolved as follows:

1.That the time is ripe for all members of the PDP in the Southwest to forge a common front and pursue a common agenda towards occupying their destined leadership position in Nigeria.

2.That despite the challenges confronting the PDP, the Southwest caucus has agreed to unite and confront the challenges that is facing the Yoruba race in Nigeria.

3.That members of the PDP has agreed to rise up beyond personal interests to confront crucial national issues that affects us as a race especially the thriving menace of the Fulani herdsmen.

4.That the meeting notes with dismay the poor state of the national economy and feel terribly sad that the current ruling party has not demonstrated the capacity to contain the economic challenges with attendant dwindling fortunes that has reversed almost all the economic gains recorded under the PDP.

5.That developments in the sphere of elections, is becoming disturbing and from all indications, the accomplishments recorded by the last PDP Government as regards the conduct of credible elections, are beginning to wane. The Southwest PDP wish to put on record our dissatisfaction with the performance of the electoral body under the ruling party as all the elections the APC has so far superintended have ended as inconclusive!

6.That the PDP will not shy away from effectively playing the role of an opposition. This role is crucial to democratic survival and the Party shall continually make Nigerians look up to it as a credible alternative to the ruling party.

7.That we commend the on-going conscious efforts of the Party in ensuring genuine reconciliation of aggrieved party leaders and members towards ensuring that we become stronger.

8.That the party will continue to encourage the collaboration of the old and the younger generation while it will do everything possible to allow fresh minds and fresh ideas to thrive.

9.That this meeting noted the Party Posts zoned to the Southwest viz: National Secretary, National Publicity Secretary, National Auditor and Zonal Executive Committee. To this end, a structured Committee was set up to equitably distribute the positions amongst the six member states.

10.That we welcome Governor Adewolu Rashidi Ladoja back to the fold of our Party as evidenced by his representatives at this meeting.

11.That we resolve therefore to fully back and work for the re-invigoration of the PDP. We the undersigned, on behalf of all PDP leaders of the South West fully subscribe to the above resolutions and recommendations today 4h May, 2016.

2) BEING A COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE PDP SOUTH WEST EXPANDED EXCO MEETING HELD TODAY 4TH MAY 2016 AT OMOILU FOUNDATION HEADQUARTERS, IJEBU IGBO, OGUN STATE

The meeting having painstakingly discussed the various issues affecting the zone hereby resolved as follows:-

1.That we received the report of the National Zoning Committee; discussed and agreed with the outcome of the zoning arrangements as approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party. The meeting commended the vision and selflessness of the National Zoning Committee, under the chairmanship of H.E. Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa-Ibom State.

2.That the PDP South West is one and indivisible family working for the actualization of the dreams of the party as articulated in the vision of the founding fathers.

3.That the PDP South West appreciates and supports the political doggedness of our National Chairman, Sen. (Dr) Ali Modu Sheriff as he strives hard to rebuild our great party in line with the party constitution through reconciliation, repositioning and mobilization in readiness for the task of bringing back the party to office in 2019.

4.The meeting agreed that the South West as its presently operating is NOT playing and CANNOT play a second fiddle in view of what accrued to the zone in the just concluded National Zoning viz; National Secretary, National Auditor and National Publicity Secretary. To this end, the meeting enjoined every leader, youth and woman to support the party for a better share of the positions in the not too distant future.

5.The meeting noted and resolved that since the Zonal Executive Committee members were elected on the 11th of October, 2014, their tenure will elapse on the 11th of October, 2018. Therefore, this meeting resolved to support the existence of the Zonal Exco till October, 2018.

6.The meeting agreed that the zone will continue to support the mobilization efforts of our leaders and elders in the absolute interest of the party.

7.The meeting agreed that what played out against our party in Lagos, Ogun Osun and Oyo states, during the last election would not be allowed to repeat itself in future elections. To this end, members must renew their loyalty and support for the PDP. The meeting called on members to vigorously pursue those things that will unite the party rather than divide it.

8.The meeting considered reports from states and commended efforts of state leaders at resolving issues arising. However, the meeting frowned at reported acts of indiscipline and warned that future occurrences would be viewed with all the seriousness it deserved, according to the dictates of our constitution.
