What Is The Solution To The Recent Herdsmen Killings? by AgricNation: 5:44pm On May 06, 2016
In recent times, a new type of crime and disaster has plagued Nigeria. These herdsmen that are travelling with their cattle through cities, fighting and killing anyone that tries to oppose them and destroying property.

The attacks that begun in Benue state and left more than 70 people dead, destroyed huge amounts of land and property and rendered thousands of people homeless

The most recent attack was in the Nimbo community situated in Enugu state, where the herdsman clashed with farmers and residents of that community, over the access to land by the herdsmen. This left more than 40 people dead, 60 people injured and again, property and farmlands being burnt by these violent and dangerous herdsmen

The main reason for these attacks by the Fulani herdsmen is disagreements over the use of essential resources such as farmland, grazing areas and water.

The Fulani herdsmen have boldly stated that nobody can stop them from grazing their cattle, especially in the south.

Solving this problem may be easier said than done. Still boils down to the grazing bill.

If you were in President Buhari’s position, as a fellow Fulani indigene and as a leader of the whole country, how would you go about these killings?

What solutions would you suggest to stop these killings? How would you ensure that Fulani herdsmen have a place to carry out their grazing activities without trespassing on other peoples land? How do we stop the widespread of these attacks?

We would like to hear from you! Please let us know your ideas.
