As much as I'd really love to get the xiaomi redmi note 5a prime. I keep contemplating...

What if the phone gets faulty at some point, are the parts readily available (in Nigeria) for repairs?

Hope it's not a phone that would be ultimately dumped if found faulty not because of anything but for the non-availability of its parts in the country (my assumptions since the brand is yet to popular in this part of the world)

About parts availability, you would have to order from AliExpress. But considering the fact that Jumia don port to xiaomi, I am sure Jumia would soon start stocking vital parts.....

I don't think 100% of the people who update would get crazy bugs either way. It is probably a small percentage and if the upgrade is not from Nougat to Oreo, it's not worth the risk to me.

How about from MIUI 8 (marshmallow) to MIUI 9 (nougat). Would you advise anyone to upgrade?

The note 5A is a solid budget phone,

No issues on network or 4G,
But kindly take note,it doesnt suppprt Glo 4G lte dat uses band 28,

Asides that,you are on the right track with MIUI

read the update changelogs to decide if the update really worth it.

I just joined Xiaomi train last month. I never got to experience MIUI 8 but those are 2 different versions of Android so......

No sir. I'm not being sarcastic. Someone warned me not to update because MIUI 9 has bugs. I'm still on MIUI 8 o. My phone is Redmi Note 4X 3/32gb.

Someone loves you. grin

It's not even just that MIUI 9 has bugs, every version would have some bugs, rather it's the fact that you're upgrading from the MIUI 8 you've already used for a while to the MIUI 9 via OTA. Xiaomi updates come with greater risks than any other phone I've used. Sometimes, it's so bad that Xiaomi suspend their own updates shortly after releasing them (kinda like Apple) but not quickly enough.

Best to have it shipped with MIUI 9(like mine) or maybe a factory reset before the upgrade might do the trick. Whatever the case may be, make sure you know what to do in event of any catastrophic bug. Cheers!

I don't know why people are so yen yen yen about updates. you get an update you can either do one of this
1) check online forums to see user reviews
2) Update as you like (I'm all for this)

Na me use my money buy phone, why person go dey scare me to do whatever i like with my phone. make i just get my R5 on Tuesday, i will update the shit out of that phone.

So far so good. Still on a first full battery cycle, 4hrs SOT and still have 52% left. For once the auto brightness dey work, had this problem with my previous redmi phones.

I've thinking about the auto brighteness too but thank you for the confirmation. I have to manually adjust the brighteness on my RN4 sometimes

the way dey carry update issues for head like say na only xiaomi dey send OTA update with bugs.
The same OS that will run smoothly for you maybe ne glitchy for me even tho we dey same fone. forgetting that the way amd settings we do on our individual fones are different.

exactly, personally I don't care about issues too. datz why I'm using lots of beta app (UC mini beta, WhatsApp beta, twitter beta, chrome beta) cuz dey all offer new things.
