Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has criticized Youth and Sports Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung for his negligence to sports development in the country.

Speaking shortly after the 4th edition of the Okpekpe 10km Road Race held in Okpekpe, Edo State last Saturday, Governor Oshiomhole told his listeners at the event that it was “shameful” that the Sports Minister is not showing much commitment to the development of sports in the country.

Governor Oshiomhole could not understand why a Minister superintending sports would be absent at a grass-roots event such as the 4th Okpekpe 10km Road Race when he was duly invited. The Comrade Governor, known for calling a spade by its name, could not hide his feelings that the Sports Minister was conspicuously absent.

He said, “Today we don’t have the privilege of hosting the Minister and I think that was a shame. Nigerians in rural areas are the forgotten majority, the minister must not sit in the comfort of an office and sermonize sports. “We must live by example, that’s why I came to show that when those young men are running, we elders can run too.”

So you mean he should start organising programs and events designed to aid old men and rural inhabitants in partaking in sporting exertions?

Fubulous brainstorm!

But how much did a Buhari budget for sports? Will the fund designated and disbursed to sport sector be sufficient to execute such mechanism?. And what other non-pecuniary incentives have been projected to precipitate such processes?.
