Amnesty International (AI), a non-governmental organization that focus on human rights with over 7 million members and supporters around the world. It works to mobilise public opinion to put pressure on governments that let abuse take place. The organisation was awarded the 1977 Nobel Peace Prize for its "campaign against torture," and the United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights in 1978.

They opened an office in Nigeria last year (2015), after several human right violations done, especially by the government.

There ACTIONS since they arrive in Nigeria

1. Freeing of Moses Akatugba from Death penalty for stealing 3 phones. Moses Akatugba is a 16 year old boy from Delta State that was accused of stealing 3 phones and was sentenced to death. AI fought until he was pardoned by former Governor Uduaghan. Now Moses lives happily in Lagos and he wrote this year's JAMB.

2. Killing of Shiites
The Shiites are a religious sect that is usually found in the northern Nigeria and their headquarter (temple) is in Zaria. Late last year, they had clash with the military and so many (not less than 300) were killed and hundreds maimed. At first, the military brought out some surgical reports that were incorrect but after Amnesty International did some investigations and realized that Nigeria Army really abused so many right and they will not go unpublished as no one is above the law. The case is still ongoing...

3. The cleaning of Ogoni
Amnesty International have pressured the FG for neglecting the people of Ogoni land that are suffering from oil spillage, until President Muhammadu Buhari made a commitment to clean the land. Still on it..

And so many more...

Recently, in effort to get more supports and for enlightment about human right and it's abuses, Amnesty is going round the nation, school to school (higher institutions) , nysc camps ( as we visited Abuja and Nasarawa camp yesterday and today respectively) etc
