Transparency International has said that Nigeria may have had its fair share of corruption, but the United Kingdom government seems to have a worse record.
In the organisation’s response to British pime minister, David Cameron’s statement about Nigeria being ‘fantastically corrupt’, the anti-corruption agency’s managing director, Cobus de Swardt, noted that the UK was actually a ‘big part of the world’s corruption problem.’
According to Premium Times, the group said Nigeria as a country is making a strong effort in the fight against corruption, but the same cannot be said of the British government.

"There is no doubt that historically, Nigeria and Afghanistan have had very high levels of corruption, and that continues to this day.
“But the leaders of those countries have sent strong signals that they want things to change, and the London Anti-Corruption Summit creates an opportunity for all the countries present to sign up to a new era.
“This affects the UK as much as other countries: we should not forget that by providing a safe haven for corrupt assets, the UK and its Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies are a big part of the world’s corruption problem,” the MD said.
Meanwhile, the group also revealed that Nigeria ranks 136 of 168 countries ranked in its Corruption Perception Index for the year 2015.
The Nigerian government has also immediately reacted to Cameron’s damaging statement with President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, describing it as embarrassing.
President Buhari is presently in London for an anti-corruption summit, where world leaders would meet to discuss ways to put an end to corruption.
