Hypothetical Battles: If every nation in the world allied and attempted to invade and conquer the United States, would they succeed?

Several nations have missiles that could be potentially threatening to the United States' cities and installations. Of particular importance is the Chinese I would think. They have high velocity nukes that are used to target an entire Aircraft Carrier Group. That is important because it isn't just the one powerful ship. They travel with many other escort ships, several tens of thousands of people and they might even be docked at important Naval installations like San Diego, Pearl Harbor (not again) or New York. Plus we have only 11 and they are sort of important for defense and air superiority.

Of course there is the stockpile of Russia, with more weapons from the U.K., France and as mentioned China. Others have the weapons as well, but they are in their infancy and likely not a threat by the time the others are done with our major cities.

Other countries also probably won't care too much about our policy of being nice and targeting only military installations in the way the we did during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I am guessing that while some of our good friends like the U.K. (who inexplicably declared war on us) might observe this, others are just going to be nastier. They understand that this is going to be an ugly war and bringing us down as fast as possible would probably be their best bet.

Things that we should expect at this point: Several cities will be brought down. In our vastly interconnected world this is going to bring down a lot of services. Internet - gone, power - gone, telephone - gone. (These are pretty important.)

There is also the threat of another pretty ugly weapon that would probably be part of the opening barrage. High altitude nuclear explosions. The brute fact of the matter is that the Amerika/NATO first strike option that they're banking on against Mother Russia is based upon the rather dubious notion that this would wipe out most of Russia’s land-based ICBMs and any remaining ones would be dealt with by the anti-ballistic missile system Amerika has placed on Russia’s borders.

Easy Peasy right? This I suppose is another one of those military theories which has never been tested and invariably don’t pan out as planned.

Seeming all too reminiscent of the plans for the battle of the Somme (fought by the armies of the British & French empires against the German empire) almost 100 years ago.

An Anglo-French sustained artillery barrage was going to smash the German front line and the British/French troops would simply walk in unopposed.

The first-strike theory also makes no mention of submarine launched ballistic nuclear missiles (SLBM) which provide second strike capabilities. Both the Russians and Chinese have these nuclear armed submersibles.

Secondly those land based missiles may well be mobile carried by train or truck, or based in super-hardened silos ready for a retaliatory launch.

As of July 2009, Russia’s strategic arsenal reportedly shrunk to 2,723 warheads, including: 367 ICBMs with 1,248 warheads, 13 SSBNs with 591 warheads and 76 bombers with 884 warheads.

Doing some arithmetic let us suppose, for the sake of argument, Amerika's overrated Air Defences destroy 95% of Russian warheads (which is impossible); this would still leave 28 nuclear warheads hitting Amerika with quadratic precision, with probably most of the big cities on the east and west coasts wiped out.

Moreover the much-vaunted and feared Amerika-NATO conventional military juggernaut has only succeeded when it takes on weak states which cannot or will not put up a fight.

When the opposition fights back as in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan the performance of the west’s unbeatable military machine has been less than impressive.(No Doubt )

The strategic error which US theorists make is that they think their enemy is going to fight on American terms in a symmetrical conflict. However, the US’s adversaries have not fallen into this trap, and they fight asymmetrical wars on their own terms.

Human error,it can happen anywhere.The parachutes were not properly harnessed to the Humvees maybe out of negligence or bad luck.Whichever way it is someone didn't do his job right.
