The garrote is a device that strangles a person to death (as in the photograph below). It can also be used to break a person’s neck. The device was used in Spain until it was outlawed in 1978 with the abolition of the death penalty. It normally consisted of a seat in which the prisoner was restrained while the executioner tightened a metal band around his neck until he died. Some versions of the garrote incorporated a metal bolt which pressed in to the spinal chord, breaking theneck. This spiked version is known as the Catalan garrote. The last execution by garrote was José Luis Cerveto in October 1977. Andorra was the last country in the world to outlaw its use, doing so in 1990.

4. Sawing.


Sawing in the half was an incredibly cruel execution method, used mostly in the Medieval Europe. During the process, the criminal would be hung upside-down from a tree or gallows, and a large saw would be then used to slice his or her body in half, starting with the crotch, all the way to the chest and head. While some victims were cut completely in half, most of them were only sliced up to their abdomen, prolonging their agony.
Because the victims were hung upside-down, the brain was receiving sufficient blood flow to keep them alive and concious until the saw finally reached the main arteries in the abdomen. In extreme cases, the execution could last several hours.

17. Execution by Elephant.


Death by elephant was a common method of execution in Southern and Southeastern Asia, although Western powers like Rome and Carthage occasionally employed it as well. Death either came swiftly or slowly, depending on the severity of your crime. The trained elephant would either crush your head, bringing about instantaneous death, or crush all of your limbs, one by one.

A bull made of brass is used to roast the live victim inside. A door is provided to place the victim inside the chamber and the bull is started to heat up at the bottom. And then the victim will be roasted alive until his flesh melts from his body. This bull also designed to amplify the sounds of the screaming victim and make them sounds like a bellowing bull.
