A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered the reinstatement of Mr. Momoh Jimoh as the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly.
Lawal and nine other officers of the state assembly were on February 16 removed from their various offices by a five members led by Mr. Umar Imam. There are a total of 20 members in the House of Assembly.
Delivering judgment on Thursday in a suit filed by Lawal and nine others, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, ordered Imam and members of his group to immediately vacate the positions of the House of Assembly which they took over from the plaintiffs. Umar and members of his faction – Friday Sani, Lawal Ahmed, Bello Abdullahi and John Abah were sued as the 1st to the 5th defendants in the suit.
The rest of the respondents joined as 6th to 9th defendants are the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Service, Commandant Civil Defence Corps and Kogi State House of Assembly.
Justice Dimgba ruled on Thursday, “It is hereby ordered that the 1st to 5th defendants should immediately vacate the different offices they now purportedly occupy by reason of the purported impeachment and removal of the Speaker and other principal officers.”
He directed Lawal and the other principal officers (2nd to 9th plaintiffs) to immediately resume their duties in their different offices “as they were never impeached and/or removed”.
The plaintiffs who were reinstated to their positions are, Lawal (Speaker); Aliyu Akuh (Deputy Speaker); Kolawole Matthew, Osiyi Godwin, Sunday Shigaba, Ndako Idris, Oluwatoyin Lawal, Musa Jimoh, Victor Omofaye and the Peoples Democratic Party.
