NLC Strike Updates Day 3 In Jos, Plateau State, Comrade Gunshin Talks by Nobody: 1:54pm On May 20, 2016
Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Plateau State Chapter has continued the strike action called by the national body. On day 3, Friday May 20th 2016, streets within Jos, the Plateau State capital were a bit deserted than usual as banking and a some business activities are all on halt with only few motorists spotted on the roads due to the strike.
Market places and business areas around Terminus, Ahamadu Bello way still had its normal flow of activities though with complains of low patronage. A visit to the Joseph Gomwalk Secretariat Jos (State Secretariat) was shut down with NLC fully barricading the entrance with their vehicles. MatthewteghaBlog correspondent, speaking to the state vice chairman NLC Comrade Gunshin Yarlings vowed to continue the strike that started on Wednesday to protest the recent hike in fuel price by the federal government from N86 to N145. He emphasized on the hardship brought on the citizens by the government stating that the hike in fuel price will not curb the situation long term but that building refineries would be a way forward. He further stressed that "the people should determine what it wants from the government but in Nigeria the government decides what to do to the people thereby unleashing untold hardship on the people"
He however recommended that there are better steps that the government can take to tackle the economic situation but not an over night hike in fuel price and not by simply saying the Federal Government did not capture Fuel Subsidy in its 2016 budget. Comrade Gunshin on a final note said "we feel as organised Labour and vanguard of the society we must tell government the truth come back on a round table, look at what is right for Nigerians and forge ahead"
