A Train dragged the yellow BMW for several metres to a halt however miraculously, Richard September and his three-12 months-old son survived the scene and lived to tell the story.
“it’s a miracle that we survived and were not severely injured,” September said. “Our mother or father angel have to have worked very difficult.” he laughs.

September said when the dust settled, all he had became a gash to the pinnacle, while his little boy, Richard Junior, escaped with out a scratch.

Furthermore, September said he failed to see or hear the train till it turned into almost “on top” of him as he changed into using over the crossing at Lebanon Farm outside Grabouw on Monday afternoon.

The train moved among high embankments some metres from the crossing, making it nearly impossible for motorists to note the oncoming train until the ultimate second, except it sounded like a whistle.

He stated it was a terrifying moment while the train banged into his car but miraculously, it did not crush them. instead, the train dragged the car for numerous metres “in what felt like for all time”.

“The complete automobile vibrated and that i attempted to loosen up my son who become frightened due to the loud sounds,” he stated. “My biggest fear was that he would be flung out or that we would be stuck in the car and burn to death.”

Rescue team needed to cut him out of the ruin, but all he needed turned into eight stitches to his head, while his son was not injured.

September advised Transnet to improve protection on the crossing.
“If that was a school bus, masses of children should have lost their lives or been injured,” he added.

However, Transnet spokesman Mike Asefovitz insisted the train, which was transporting 11 wagonloads of malt from Caledon to Cape Town, should have been visible to September.

“The level crossing is situated close to a bend but you can see the train almost 80 metres from where the motorist was supposed to stop, However formal investigation would be conducted.” Mike added.
