The government of Oyo state is making active moves aimed at ‘privatising’ public schools in the state through the transfer of ownership of public schools in a public/private partnership deal which it said is aimed at developing human capital founded on quality education in Oyo state.

In a statement gotten by IBPulse and signed by Mrs. Makanjuola AO, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the government said it is inviting applications from interested stakeholders desirous of partnering with Government in this regard.

This means that if you are interested in owning any public school in Oyo state, you will do the following:

Collect application form from Room 18 of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology from Friday, May 27, 2016, for a sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250,000.00) only
Address completed applications to The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Secretariat, Ibadan.
Attach the following with the completed application:

i. Memoranda/Expression of interest (10 copies).

ii. Evidence of previous experience in school administration.

iii.Evidence of financial and management capability to operate the school(s) successfully.
Submit to Room 56 of the Ministry not later than Thursday, June 23, 2016.

What does this mean?

It simply means that those religious institutions who are clamoring for the return of schools in the state to their founders can now get that done by simply applying to own the schools. Furthermore, rich men and women in the state who are interested in the education sector can also get that done.

Potential setbacks

Without any doubt, this move will be opposed by civil servants in the state because the government cannot guarantee job security for the teachers and other workers in the schools. So, prepare yourselves, sh*t is about to go down.
