First bank is fond of this rubbish, it's #204 they deducted from my account yesterday.
Re: SMS Alert Charge: Is First Bank Stealing My Money? by Stevosty: 1:03pm On May 29, 2016
Same with my acct, they will just send silly messages like your account as been credit and next debited with same amount, they dont even include the balance, next they charge you sms alert. Imagine such with thousands of customers, electronic robbery.

Yes.
So many people have reported this fraud.

That bank has stepped up its game of pilfering people's money under very phony charges.

All banks in Nigeria collect alert charges and it has been accepted as normal. In fact some even charge for birthday text sent to customers but if you are not okay with it all you need to do is to just walk into your bank and tell them you want to deactivate SMS alert on your account. I did same in Firstbank. it's only in stanbicibtc I wanted but couldn't because I saw a scary clause in the form I was meant to fill. So I try to Endure their weekly and monthly statement alert. Stanbicibtc don't make it accumulate they take the N4 immediately they send you alert. Diamond Bank deducted cumulative alert charge of About N1800 from my account early this year as alert charges for last year.

Be sure you do internet banking, have e-mail alert or an ATM card incase you may need to confirm your balance.

You will also need to keep those very close to your heart to avoid any unauthorized transaction taking place on your account and the bank shifting responsibility should it occur.

I am a (NRN) Non Resident Nigerian customer. I did not sign up for ATM, i did not even sign up for Token device for online Transfer, at least it would be a miracle how money will fly out from my account when i did not request for a Token, coupled with the fact that i don't even have BVN because there is no BVN centre here in Ireland.

I did not request for SMS alert. I only signed up for internet banking just to monitor my account online and i requested for email alert only. But according to First Bank on their website, it is clearly stated that Email Alert is at no cost. See attached below. What do you think?

I get alerts through SMS and mail....perhaps i should just get rid of the SMS alert since i get mail notifications once a message gets sent to my Email.
They deducted 54 naira from my ACCT yesterday. It's a small amount but i just think SMS alerts should be free.
Re: SMS Alert Charge: Is First Bank Stealing My Money? by Nobody: 1:18pm On May 29, 2016
I didn't make any transaction with my account in April and may yet they deducted #12.
They've been deducting my money since November last year.
At times they deducted #100 for what?
I've decided not to use the account again.

Exactly.

It's called nickle-and-diming.
Pilfering tiny amounts from millions of people adds up at the end of the month.

Nigerian banks are stressed right now.

Buhari's TSA policy Nuked them, along with the rest of the economy.

Bros, instead of this ignorant scream over 56 naira.

Why not walk into their nearest branch and ask why you were charged. You might not be receiving sms alert but a number you filled on your account opening form (which you aren't using) is receiving this message.

You're billed by the bank on behalf of your network operator. No be ur 50naira the bank wan chop. And ask of the rate of the sms charge.

Cos heritage charges 10naira per sms, the charge varies for each network operator. So get information and stop BLEATING >:

That 50naira from multiple account holders with first Bank will run to millions.

The same thing happened to me, I sent them an email, they replied saying they will investigate it... Since then, I haven't heard from them
The problem with calling them is, you might even waste more than that money on call airtime while contacting them. That's why I choose to send an email instead of calling

Accesss bank charged me 172 naira twice in 24hours for SMS alert, i will call them tommorow

Email alerts are free, that is what I use for my first bank account.

Try to do your BVN and token, first bank will dhl the token to you. I have done both and the token is great.

Though when I first opened my account, I was charged for a Cheque book that I never requested for and never received.

The FREE mentality has reached a disgusting level.

OP came online to complain about #56 naira deduction that happened once in a month...seriously?

How long has he been with First Bank and how long has he noticed the deduction for OP to come online to tranish a companys reputation with such an heading.

Another thing I have noticed is Nigerians hardly use the channels made available to resolve issues by organisations. Their first instict is to use social media, that will make them more popular and noticed instead of writing a mail or putting a call across to customer care.
