Apple is being sued by California Institute of Technology also known as Caltech for using Wi-fi chips that infringe on the university patents.

The university also argues that Apple intentionally used its patented technology in almost all of its product starting from Iphone 5, in a lawsuit filed last Thursday. Caltech want to recover damages from the infringement and also block sales of those products that infringe on the university's patent.

According to Caltech, the patents are integer to 802.11n and 802.11ac Wi-Fi, which are the most updated standards. The two integer allow faster data transmission and also simplify the hardware needed to offer Wifi in the process.

In Macrumors post, Broadcom was also sued, infact they are the major target, Broadcom is the company that create Wi-Fi chips used on Iphones, Macbook and other Apple products. Apple been Broadcom's biggest customers that represent about 14% of the company's revenue was looped as a result of this.

Though this is not the first time Apple will run into trouble regarding patents infringement, last year similar issue occur with the university of Wisconsin-Madison which result Apple paying a huge sum of $234 million for infringing a patent regarding processor performance to the university.
