The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with top private organisations, is set to train no fewer than 500 Final Year students of State Tertiaty Institutions for 13 weeks under the present administration’s Ready-Set-Work initiative.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Hon. Obafela Bank-Olemoh, who disclosed this on Tuesday at Land Mark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos during a Press Conference and Launch of the programme, said the capacity building programme is designed for the 500 best graduating students from state institutions to get internship placement in high ranking corporate organizations.

He emphasised that at the end of the internship, those with best business ideas will get linked to major investors and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund for necessary assistance.

According to him “Looking at the current unemployment statistics, it is clear that an intervention is required to ensure our students are positioned to succeed in the competitive global labour market. In line with the objective of the Lagos State Government, the Ready, Set, Work Programme will equip students in our tertiary institutions with the needed skills to contribute to the economic development of the state as job creators”.

While enjoining all our final year students of state institutions to avail themselves of this unique opportunity, Bank-Olemoh reaffairmed the commitment of the Governor Ambode led Administration to the policy of Government of Inclusion where no one will be left out.

Speaking earlier, the State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon Babatunde Durosimi-Etti stated that the initiative is a welcome development and people oriented programme set up to address unemployment among the youths.

Durosimi-Etti noted that graduates of today lack the requisite knowledge and technical know-how to make them employable in the ever changing world of technology, as such government is using the Ready-Set-Work programme as a platform for innovative youth to explore and add value to their lives.

He therefore implored the students to take advantage of the initiative to empower themselves and actualize their dreams.
