This is the traditional way of calling for a fast. Is it from sunup to sundown? I'm sure the elderly and children are exempt. Laredojohn, he will be buried with human heads, his staff carriers and some leopards will be allowed out at night to go hunting. That's what i was told as a child. I know there is a hypnosis spell cast on people to coerce them into going to the palace and becoming servants for a while in order to cook for the multitude of visitors during that time (this was before the era of caterers). The hypnotized person was given a loincloth to wear and usually worked without needing to rest so had to be released after a day. My mum's neighbour was one of those caught the last time Oba "travelled". He went to the farm, didn't come home that night and came home a day later, exhausted and with welts on his hands from pounding yam constantly. He had absolutely no idea what he had been doing, but someone who was in the palace confirmed seeing him in his loincloth around the kitchen (working tirelessly). 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Re: No Cooking With Fire In Benin Kingdom On Sunday by AreaFada2: 10:29pm On Jun 03, 2016 |
djakinwande: Centuries back, it was quite possible. You could eat cold agidi with corn akara, or other stuff made of condiments prepared even days earlier and eaten cold. You could soak garri & eat with dried meat, groundnuts or fish. Eba or amala made the previous day can be used to eat sun-warmed soup. Fruits like pineapples, oranges, coconuts, mangoes, pawpaw. A single day of not cooking is nothing. In ancient times, it would be for weeks. These days, several churches do dry fasting for many days. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Re: No Cooking With Fire In Benin Kingdom On Sunday by Nobody: 10:45pm On Jun 03, 2016 |
OLUJOSHINS: Electric stove in Nigeria? If u live in this country u will know dat it is not a good idea. It will serve more as a parlour for rats and cockroaches than a cooker. Wia u see light? 2 Likes |

OLUJOSHINS: Hahaha, let's see what the adherent of an archaic tradition will do tomorrow. Cook with sunlight I guess. Deluding yourselves. Even the widow of the late Oba will cook jellof rice tomorrow. Why make useless pronouncements when you know it will fail by 99% 1 Like 1 Share |
