Last week,we took the first lesson in the series on how to generate business ideas and we learnt that our problems can be a good income source for us. In this article, we’ll have a look at how to generate business ideas from other people’s problems and desires.

The truth is that because we’re humans, we have a tendency to become engrossed with our own challenges so much that we lose sight of the problems of the people around us.

One essential key to generating business ideas without struggle is too see yourself as a solution provider because every business idea is really a solution to a problem.
I’m amazed when some Christians whine all day about the many problems that the world is experiencing because that’s not their place. An interesting prophecy in Isaiah 60:1-3 explicitly informs us of the coming darkness and defined our role in it – we’re to arise as solutions to the problems.

In case you’re thinking that’s not applicable to us, Jesus clearly informed us that we’re the light of the world. Light is the only solution to the gross darkness covering the earth.

Onward.

So how do you identify the problems around you that can become great business ideas?

Listen to what people are really saying – the unspoken words.

People often express their pains and desires to those around them – instead of just sympathizing with them or admiring their desires put on your ‘solution provider’ cap.

For example, if the nursing mother who lives near you keeps talking about how she’s not comfortable with the day care center her little baby is enrolled in and the kind of activities she wish they engaged the kids in, what is she really saying to you?

Simple.

“Please, can you help me? I’ll be glad to pay you for it.”

So instead of wasting time just sympathizing with her and narrating other people’s bad experiences like most people do, probe further into their desires to see if you might be interested in building a business that meets her needs. If she’s talking to you about this, there could be several other people nursing the same desires who are just not talking to you.

Now have in mind that you do not necessarily need to have children skills to start a daycare center. You could hire other people with those skills to work in your center so don’t let that stop you.

Listening to the people around you to decipher their struggles and their desires is a sure way to generate business ideas people will be glad to pay you for.
Exercise:

Start thinking of all the people who have shared their complaints and desires with you in recent times and generate a list of possible business ideas from them.
