Renaissance Technologies, founded by Jim Simons in 1982, is a quantitative hedge fund whose Medallion Fund (it’s most exclusive) averaged a 71.8% return 1994–2014. Simons routinely hires some of the worlds best mathematicians and scientists to work at his company for 7 figure salaries. I think they only have a couple MBAs working there. Everything they do is obviously top secret but one thing we do know is that they make the vast majority of their money from high frequency trading.
