Good morning LL readers here is a mail I got from a reader who needs your honest opinion on an issue…
Good day Mr Kunle, please I have an issue bothering my mind and I want you to please help me share this with LagosLately Readers. I am a proud muslim and a professional photographer who is presently observing the Ramadan fast as required of all muslims. My father who is also a muslim as been a medical doctor for over thirty six years and I know he still performs all kinds of surgeries which exposes him to the unclothedness of the opposite sex even while observing the Ramadan fast. I naturally assumed it’s not wrong since he is doing it (seeing women’s unclothedness) with a good motive. Being a professional photographer myself I have been working on a project since last week and part of the project involves taking Unclad photos of ladies and men alike. My question now is Is my Ramadan fast still acceptable?

Though I don't have reference from d quran or hadith to this effect but I will say,your father fasting is still intact as long has his mind and heart never move for a second. I know Doctors are used to such
But urs,pls even if u have a heart like a rock,drop that project for the sake of Allah and wait to see Allah reward you with a bigger one. Even if not during ramadan,i think it isn't good

Ask yourself, what is your conscience telling you?
Whereas your father's work involve saving people's life
Yours involve spoiling other people's life
The unclad picture that you took today
Will be the incentive/cause of somebody's addiction to porn tomorrow

So ask yourself if you think you should be spoiling people's life is an iba'adat or not

..... in my opinion I think u need to stop d project for the time being even if Ramadan is not involved such project is not godly but one wil not eat sand na.

I'm also a photographer, just try and stay away from what will affect your fast.

You can stay away from taking unclad men and women pictures(your project) for now.

As for your father, I don't think his work is affecting his fasting because he's trying to save lifes.

On your own case, what you are also doing is part of your own professionalism also, where you got it wrong is by choosing to take picture of both man and woman unclothedness together of which yyou know what they are doing is highly forbidden (حرام) from Almighty Allah, as far as they are not couple, even if they are couple also, your third party is not needed.
May Almighty Allah direct us all to his right way (Amin)

These are not among things that vitiate ones fast. But you are engaging in two sins; taking haram pictures and looking at unclad bodies(other than your wife) which will reduce the rewards of your fast.. Wallohu a'alam.... Please do away from these things both in Romodhon and outside... May Allah assist us all and guide us aright..

My brother, please I'm sure your concise is telling you to stop it. Please do so, seek for Allah's forgiveness, surely He will forgive you.

Firstly, looking at opposite sex unclothedness either in Ramadan or other months is Haraam Islamically, except on necessities (DORURAH), if your dad falls under this category then he is excused under the Islamic law.

Secondly, your own case is more broad, being a professional photographer it's a huge debate among our erudite scholars, which most believe it is undesirable, and you taking opposite sex nude pics is highly frowned upon in the Sharia.

Thirdly as for whether your fast is acceptable or not, there are categories of rewards for a fasting person, I think your category should not be excepting much rewards, sin depreciates the rewards of SAWM BUT IT DOES NOT NEGATES IT WHOLLY.

Inshaa Allaah your sawm is valid, just that shaytaan has been stealing from you by sharing your reward with you owing to what your profession exposed you to....

If care is not taken, one might risk not having any reward of fasting neither will he be questioned of not fasting; it's like a fellow who fetches water into a basket, he's fetching the water but gains nothing from it.

I think this is one of the shaytaan 's deception(TALBIS IBLEES )



Aside from that, I would strongly admonish you to have a look at the sharee'ah rulings on tasweer.

Who are we to judge?

Allah SWT knows what you revealed n conceived. Actions are also judged to intention according to one of the Hadiths of Prophet Muhammed SAW.

My sincere advice is listen to your conscience. If it tells you you're on a wrong path, kindly put an end to what you're doing.

May Allah SWT forgive us all our sins, great and small, the first and the last, those that are apparent and those that are hidden. May He accept all our thrives as an act of Ibaadah.

Well, I don't think that should be a problem because it is your source of income and there's no Hadith or Sunnah that supports this because it didn't happen during the time of the prophet; one way to handle issues like this is relating it to what the Hadith says about similar issues and deriving an answer from it not going by what people say because most Muslims misinterprete the scriptures. Here is what I found online which I think might be helpful" If a person ejaculates only by looking (at something sexy), his fast is not broken. If he helps with his hands or something else to ejaculate,his fast is broken and will be made up..." (Myreligionislam.com).

What breaks a fast are either eating, drinking or sexual intercourse. Telling lies also makes fasting ineffective, as the Prophet (peace and belssing be upon him) "Whoever does not give up false statements (i.e. telling lies), and ... words to others, Allah is not in need of his (fasting) leaving his food and drink. Looking at unclad women or men does not break the fast in itself but this will tremendously reduce the reward of your fast. As the reward of fasting vary from person to person based on acts of worship performed. Somebody that spent the whole day reciting Qur'an, praying, praising Allah, sending blessings to the prophet (S.A.W), giving charity cannot be compared with somebody that spent the day backbiting, gazing at women, listening to music etc in terms of reward. While the first persons fasting will be rewarded without measure, the second may just have fulfilled the commandment of fasting without reward and Allah Will not hold him accountable for not fasting the day or the month as the case may be, but no much reward. My advice to the brothers both father and son are as such: to the son try to stop work that relate to looking at nude clients whether male or female. Remember whoever is conscious of Allah, He is enough for him and Allah Will open other doors for him. The father can also limit work that entail looking at nude women and men especially in Ramadan unless it is a necessary live saving operation or so.

Brother/Sister stop been in denial this project you are working on is WRONG regardless inside the month of Ramadan or outside Ramadan, what you are doing is a BAD deed, your actions carry a multiplying effect of an accumulative nature i.e every bad deed derived from your pictures you as an individual will recieve a share in the deed. Technically you are fasting but is you fast be accepted if it can not stop you from snapping these kinds of pictures? is it becos you are weak? Do not take the significance of Ramadan lightly, is this project going to feed you and your family for the rest of your life? must it be you that should do this project? why you?, Ramadan is the time to maximize your blessings and efforts, my brother/sister strive and sacrifice for the next 15 days, nobody is perfect all we can do is try our best, but try we must.

Haba brother,whether male or female...you shouldn't see the awrah of others.This is haram,pls look for other options in your career,you'll be surprised at the barakah Allah will put in.My sincere advice to you is to drop this project

Subhanallah!! subhanallah! fear Allah in your judgement.Well for the OP . For the sake of hereafter stop it even after ramadan with the intention of pleasing Allah and in shaa Allah you'll have the cause to praise Allah.

My broda i'm youll say the same if it were to be the case of prostitute but fear Allah in your judgements, there is no reason to condem the op, islam is a religion of knowledge and not a religion of Logic. as for op, the scholars says if no female surgeon is available then your dad operations are valid and may he be rewarded for saving lives, but for yours walahi its undoubtfully not acceptable not to talk of seeing unclad.....Wallahu aalam
