It seems that there is a conspiracy of silence and sheer hypocrisy by the Nigerian government over the slaying of many Igbo sons and daughters in the southeastern part of the country. For weeks now, there has been deafening silence on the massive killings.

First, it was the Nimbo massacre in which dozens were slaughtered like cows and many other helpless villagers left with endless pains and agonies.

Not too long ago, it was the turn of Pro-Biafra agitators. In Onitsha, hell was let loose as Nigerian security forces coordinated attacks on the citizens. No matter the provocations, exercising professional competence is what distinguishes a modern-day security outfit. But not so in our country where a security man sees himself as lord over the helpless and bloody civilians.
According to one of the leading online investigative paper, www.premiumtimesng.com, an operative of the government who was part of the operation provided vital information on how the killings were done. His account certainly corroborates that of the IPOB and MASSOB members who have been complaining of the massive killings.
According to the whistleblower, the use of force started on the night of May 29th. Read this “while other members of the JTF were minimizing the use of force, soldiers recklessly opened fire at crowds, shooting at close range, and “wasting people indiscriminately.”
Continuing, he said that “it got to a point where injured pro-Biafra supporters, seeing the countless bodies of their colleagues on the ground, opened their arms wide, advanced towards the soldiers screaming that they too should be killed”.
Now read this one too, “Three military trucks were used to cart away heaps of dead bodies”.
This account and many others untold clearly show how lives are wasted almost daily. It is saddening that nothing in terms of arresting some persons who were involved in the killings has been done.
Even the South east governors and leaders of thought seem to be at lost on what to do. There is nothing at all. The military authorities cannot claim ignorance of the inglorious infamy by their soldiers and officers. Some persons coordinated the operation.
It is disheartening that a calamity of this magnitude would occur without anybody or authority blinking an eye.
The killers may have succeeded at the moment, but the repercussions will hunt us all forever.
We may not save the looming implications.
