Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has reaffirmed the resolve of his administration to ensure strict enforcement of the state Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law when the bill is passed by the State House of Assembly.
Governor Ortom gave the assurance today at the thanksgiving service in honour of the member representing Buruku State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Ngunan Addingi which took place at Kusuv Community Secondary School, Buruku.
He said the decision of the State Government to enact a law to prohibit open grazing of cattle was borne out of the commitment of his administration to end frequent invasion of the state by herdsmen which leaves scores of people dead.
Governor Ortom said agriculture remains the biggest industry in the state and the available land could not accommodate farming and cattle grazing at the same time.
He expressed optimism that though things are difficult at the moment, when the people invest more in agriculture and trust in God, the current situation will become a thing of the past.
The Governor commended Hon. Mrs. Addingi as a reliable representative of the people and urged her to continue doing the things that could uplift the state.
Earlier, Hon. Addingi thanked God for elevating her to the current position she occupies and pledged to maintain the attributes that earned her the trust of the people of Buruku.
Speaking on behalf of the Speaker and members of the Benue State House of Assembly, Leader of the House, Hon. Benjamin Adanyi said the cordial relationship between the legislature and the executive arms of government in the state will continue to yield positive results.
Other speakers included Ter Buruku, Chief David Afatyo, Commissioner for Arts and Culture, Hon. Sekav Iyortyom and former Vice Chancellor, Benue State University, BSU, Makurdi, Professor Paul Akase Sorkaa who lauded the achievements recorded by Governor Ortom within just a year. Prof. Sorkaa pointed out that the Governor had introduced fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability in governance, a step he said would make Benue a better place.

How on earth will any sane governor give your land to invaders from fouta jallon to use as grazing field? Why can't they pay for land and establish cattle ranches as in done in this day and age?

What happened to sambisa forest? Why can't use sambisa forest as their grazing reserve afterall sambisa forest is bigger than Lagos state?

Ortom and the people of Benue state should get ready because I can assure you that the fulani have earmarked the whole of Benue state as a large grazing field for their cattle.

Very soon Ortom will see the herdsmen bringing their cows into the Benue state government house to graze.

Good one by a governor focusing on his people needs.

Fulani herdsmen are one set of people that can't obey Laws and Order. No matter how much land u give them for grazing, its a sure thing they must trespass places not allocated to them. In Enugu then the villagers allowed them to graze in land not often used for farming but they will leave it and take their cows to newly cultivated lands and places they are not allow to trespass . Its just futile giving them lands when u know they can't abide on the law and graze where lands are allocated to them.

If not for the way some of these herdsmen misbehave, we will not have been talking about this.
