NOTE: Even if you dont have a site or blog now, you may own one in near future or be in charge of one on behalf you future employer

What is site Speed? It is the time a visitor has to wait until your page is completely loaded. Imagine you are at the bank, airport or Mama Mulika's joint to order to for Amala & 'Bokoto', only for you to be kept in waiting like forever. Even incredibly patient people will get bored or angry that it’s taking longer than expected!

Web Speed Importance...

1) It has an impact on your audience user experience. A bad UX can cause visitors to just close your website & therefore can cost you a loss of revenue.

2) Note that page speed is one of 200 signals Google uses to determine rank. A slow page load is penalized by Google and has an impact on your ranking, both on mobile and desktop devices

3) Site Speed determines how a site gain or lose organic traffic.

METHODOLOGY

Open https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights on your browser & input your website or blog (any site url u want to check).

This classic displays a page speed score between 0 and 100 and gives you all the keys and advices to improve your page load.

For example inputing www.ultramusicgroup.com into the url, show mobile & desktop speed to be 66 and 72 respectively with 100% User experience

What does this count implies? If you can achieve between 55 and 95 site speed count - Your site or blog has fair, good, very good or excellent status. No site can achieve 100%...even GOOGLE! (has 79 & 92 site speed counts)

This must-use tool from Google is very comprehensive in its analysis https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights. Besides being easy-to-use, you’ll receive a page speed score out of 100 and analysis of both the desktop and mobile versions of your site. You get recommendations that are divided into high-, medium- or low-priority.

There are about 6 new guidelines you need to implement now before you lose your ranking

1. When opened on a mobile device, the content of the site should be readable without zooming.
2. The content should be scaled to fit on mobile screen without scrolling horizontally.
3. Clickable links should have a generous space between them for easy tapping of the desired link. Fat fingers, they say, loves white spaces.
