vincent561:I love your point, there should be jamb & postutme, jamb isn't reliable at all, this year jamb has been a complete failure. Postutme is there to give chance to does cheated by jamb to prove them, I won't be surprise if someone with 200 score upto 300 or 75% in postutme 1 Like |

It is still the same thing, Though I'm not taking sides here. I am only opposing that your opinion 2 Likes |

I think our prob here is JAMB exam, not putme, instead of having one privilege of admission once in a year u collect number of schools form that suit you, go to the schools and do exam like they do in all western world. The issue of jamb exam should be scrapped, jamb should only oversee admission process like money paid form, type of screening etc... With this our children will not stay too long at home... Though FG was right in his decision, but not hitting the target. My opinion |

Seunnzy: Thank you o... There re very few nigerians who reason right. First, I think institution should determine its terms and condition for admitting students. Go to UK, US and other advanced country... What is UTME, make or O'level or A'level and apply to any university of ur choice. Such universities determine the terms n condition Secondly, the likes of unilorin, UI, OAU, Uniben will have well over 30,000 people, who qualify for admission but each of this schools can't admit more than 8,000 each. What becomes of the one who's got no 'leg' in the university. One who made good result but no body in the university to help him. Thirdly, Mr Mallam Adamu Adamu, if ur interest is to curb extortion... I'm sorry, you just opened a wide door for extortion. Cos, men will now bribe their way with a huge sum to university lecturers to gain admission. Mr mallam, why not regulate the cost of postUTME form. Why not return to the decision of the 6th Senate. N1000 naira for post utme form. Pls don't be misguided Sir. Thank you Yours Sincerely. |

But wat kinda country is this?... Since universities are under-funded..u tot it morally justified to rob the aspiring & desperate university admittees of post-utme money dat doesn't even d least guarantee dem admission at all.. Y not juz be open in d 1st place nd tell all aspirin admittees dat d monies bein paid is mere donation to d sch rather dan hide unda d post-utme umbrella.. 1 Like |
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Wednesday, kicked against the Federal Government’s directive for tertiary institutions to scrap the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Post-UTME, for admission of candidates for the 2016/2017 academic session, saying the quality of tertiary education in the country could improve if the institutions are allowed to regulate their students admission process. ASUU President, Comrade Biodun Ogunyemi, said such freedom would enhance the quality of education. Recall that at a recent joint policy meeting to decide the cut off mark for students seeking admission into the universities, the government announced the scrapping of post-unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME). The Post UTME is the second stage of screening usually conducted by universities for the final selection of candidates qualified for admission for an academic session. Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu had threatened to sanction any university or tertiary institution found conducting examinations under any guise to admit students. He further directed tertiary institutions that had collected money from candidates for such purposes to immediately refund it or face appropriate sanctions. The ASUU boss told NAN that such directive encroached on the autonomy of the institutions. “I think government should give these institutions the chance to regulate themselves,” he said. “They should decide for themselves, the process they dim fit to admit their students. The Senate of universities for example, should decide on the process they want to use in selecting candidates. “We do not think it’s right for government to decide the method of screening of the candidates, indeed, we want to attain some level of sanity and quality in the system.” The unionist added that government could only come into the process by putting in place the necessary guidelines as part of their oversight functions. According to him, it may not also be easy for institutions that had already collected money for the conduct of the post-UTME or screening in whatever guise to refund such money. He added that this was because such money could have been diverted to other purposes. Ogunyemi noted that most universities were under-funded and therefore, might have used some of the money to attend to urgent needs of the institution. “Some of the arguments raised in this entire episode is that universities or tertiary institutions were using the conduct of such examination to make money,” he said. “But the truth is, these institutions are poorly funded. If universities for example are properly funded, will the vice-chancellors be looking for other means of making money? “In the last seven months, university workers have been receiving incomplete salaries, that is, the disbursement of funds for payment of salaries has always been inadequate. “When situations like this arise, the managements will not be left with any choice than to look inwards and seek means of meeting such needs. “And one of such strategies is by conducting such examination.” Ogunyemi noted that the state universities were worst hit for many of them had yet to receive subvention in the last one year. “Actually we in ASUU frown at extortion of any type from students or candidates but the government too should be alive to its responsibilities by providing the enabling environment that will aid teaching, leaning and research.” According to him, it may not also be easy for institutions that had already collected money for the conduct of the post-UTME or screening in whatever guise to refund such money. He added that this was because such money could have been diverted to other purposes oleole thunda fire olof dem |

But that statement that university needs that money to fund their school is foolish statement from that man... Tho I did not support jamb exam, school should screen candidates for admission. With this u can collect number of forms in a year to pursue admission in diff schools |

Post utme isn't conducted to screen candidates but to make money for themselves. Do you know the kind of cheating and fraud that take place during the post utme rubbish? you all should just thank that minister. Post utme is conducted to make money, simple. Do the maths (5,000 applicants x N5,000) and see. After writing such exams less than 500 applicants are admitted on MERIT. then another stage of extortion and corruption begins, it's called SUPPLEMENTARY. haven't you seen a medicine and surgery aspirant given micro-biology despite doing well in both exams? Education minister has made it clear. Screen candidates using their certificates(O level or A level) as applicable abroad. Stop charging exorbitant fees to conduct rubbish. I'm sure those Vc's must have gone to price luxury cars and maybe landed properties hoping to pay after they conduct post utme....e pain them *lol* 1 Like |
