Brother I been waiting for post like yours. It is painful anytime I found myself in that God forseeking country. I have actually avoided Lagos since 6yrs.
There is no orderliness in Nigeria. Some beat the red light when the see no car is in motion.
The extreme left lane is called speed lane outside Nigeria but roads like Musa yar'dua highway in Abuja somebody will be driving 30kph and still maintain the speed lane. These actions are so irritating.

Okay, so the government has done its job on some roads by providing clear lane markings, yet some or most motorists in Nigeria take these lane markings simply as decorations undecided

I get soooooooo angry driving in Lagos sometimes, that I find myself cursing almost everyone.

Do they even realize how dangerous it is

You will be driving in ur lane, then some animal would now leave his lane and start veering into urs, like da fvck

What is so hard in driving straight and using ur turn signals when ready to switch lanes

Honestly, if I was white, I'd be a racist after witnessing this sort of jungle driving. I'd think that blacks are animals, true story.

The most annoying one is on a 3 lane road like lekki epe, when I'm driving on the extreme left lane and some mudafvcker in the middle lanenow has half of his car in his lane and the other half in my lane. In essence almost pushing me into the concrete sepetator on my left.

Why am I a Nigerian sef, why am I black

Don't even get me started with danfos and conductors hanging on the back of busses like real animals.

No law enforcement, nothing. Fvcking annoying
then quit bitching and do som'n about it

You mentioned Lagos, every driver is in a rush to get somewhere in Lagos, even the passengers. So, how can a common lane on the road stop people?
Fences, barbed wires or barricades should be used to demarcate lanes, not just some markings on the road. People won't respect those markings.

I'm telling you. Lagosians need electric fences installed instead of lane markings. Maybe that would teach them to stay in one lane.

Oga, u need to consider that they may also be dodging the several potholes on the road some might be so deep that they can cause alot of damages..I am not saying it's a good thing to be switching lanes or driving in the center of 2 lanes but this is the major reason people change lanes. In developed Countries am sure their roads are well constructed and smooth..so u can't compare both situations.
Just admit it, the bad attitude of impatience that we have and not potholes is responsible for that misbehaviour. Abuja roads are good and I have observed that annoying attitude there too.

How would those Danfo drivers prove to you that they drive more than you? Most Nigerians believe lane switching makes you a 'sharp' driver.

That's the mentality when driving in lagos.

I'm beginning to agree with this post.

If this were to be the solution, then you can't help but agree with the OP that a lot of these drivers think with their hands and feet instead of their brains...

@kYjelly2 This issue has been boggling me for a long time as well. It's frustrating driving on Nigerian roads. Last time I was in Abuja I almost lost my minds, it seems the lanes are invisible to almost everyone! The most annoying are those hugging 2 lanes like wtf! And when you honk your horn they lash at you as if you are the one in the wrong. It's sad sad sad.

Because most times, 7 times out of 10 they are using their phones and driving. When i see a car driving erratically and i finally overtake, i look at the driver and chances are that the idiot is on the phone.
Secondly, and this is a true story, some drivers don't know why the lines are there. I was in a car and the driver was driving with the lane divider between the wheels and was meticulously positioning the car such that the line was in the exact centre of the car. I asked why they were doing this and they said isn't that the correct thing to do? Well, i said you are to be in between the two lines and not the line in between the wheels.
Others think the lines are a form of decoration. You'd see five lines on a three lane road

seriously, most times I wonder where are the lanes physically most roads don't have lane in naija, except u create it mentally, and most road users are mentally deranged, that was what I was taught in driving sch.

Yeah its bad even here in Abuja. The worst is when driving across bridges and flyovers, you see a vehicle right in the middle and you have no shoulder to pass by. Another is having slow moving vehicles and trucks on the speed lane forcing you to overtake on the right hand side, their blind side even after honking tirelessly. On the highway some especially trucks will be 'dating', crawling side by side and blocking both lanes forcing vehicles to overtake on the shoulder which is extremely dangerous.

Yeah, you got it, that Yaradua highway and its intersecting brother, the longer, Nnamdi Azikiwe. Very annoying. The authorities should also do something about the bottleneck caused by parking cars at the Berger flyover especially in the mornings. It is very, very dangerous. You have cars coming at top speed from the Maitama axis and those from Yaradua meeting there. This present FCT administration is doing little in terms of road way/traffic enforcements.

Is there any rule/law that restricts road users to single lane undecided

Yes there is. And it gives you explicit instructions on how, when and in what circumstance to change lanes. Its in the traffic code.

Most people dont know the meaning of good driving as what you are complaining about is all they have known or seen since they started driving. They got their license by simply paying the fees and they havent witnessed driving in more developed nations. As a result the typical ideology here is that the best driver is one who is fast and speeds and all.

The inability of Nigerians to keep to a lane on the road is an actual reflection of what the brain is doing at that time, switching between left and right hemisphere involuntarily.

Op, so many factors could be attributed to reckless driving in nija, especially lagos

the first time I drove in overseas I almost involve in an accident just bcs I ignored the marked whit line,

despite the fact that I've been driving for the past 10ys in lagos without any incident

meanwhile, it didn't occur to me that it's an offense when your tyre is on the marked white line.

some of the reason for reckless driving in nija especially lagos are::

(1) most people don't go to driving school

(2) brake down of law and order

(3) potholes everywhere

(4) poor road networks

(5) Impatience of drivers

(6) Road congestion

just to mention a few
