10 Tips For A Successful Nollywood Movie Audition by Nollyconnect: 1:43pm On Jul 07, 2016
If you really want to be in Nollywood movies you have to make acting your job. Take acting classes, audition for small plays in your area; build a resume and reputation in your theatre community; pay for good head shots.

Casting is the selecting of actors to play the various roles. Sometimes a part is written with a particular actor in mind, but usually not. The casting director can play a significant role in the eventual success or failure of the movie or TV show.

This Post will guide you on how to successfully audition and get picked for a movie in Nollywood.

1.Understand what the Movie audition is looking for

To begin with read and comprehend the audition notice correctly to make certain that you are trying out for a role that fits your acting style, age and personality. You don’t want to get there probably after travelling hours and then finding out that the audition is for kids from ages 10-15. This can be depressing and frustrating at the same time. Do make sure your match the criteria for the audition.

2 . Arrive Early At The Venue

You should always arrive at least thirty to one hour before the commencement of the audition. This gives you ample time so that you can relax and get comfortable with the casting crew by making small talks.

3. Do your Research About The Company and Their Works

Know the company, their work, their ethic and their approach. (So many actors audition for my company who have no idea what we do and what their aesthetic is.) See this as a chance to explore, experience and express.

4. Prepare Your Headshot and Profile for the Audition

Headshots are so important for actors and you should make sure to follow these tips

.No black and white photos.
You MUST look like yourself. If your headshot is overly retouched, it’s an instant “no.”
Be sure to take both outdoor and indoor photos.
In addition, it is important to present images that convey the qualities of the types of roles you’d like to perform. Submit appropriately, which means you need to have more than one headshot (if you want to keep your options open).

5. Enter The Room With Confidence

Build your confidence by performing in front of people, saying what you like doing what you want. Remember you are in media world here no pain no gain rule works. So enhance your creativity to others and show them what you are and where you belong to.

6. Network & Socialize

Make sure to meet new and fellow actors who are there for the audition. Once you meet and connect with someone, be in touch regularly—and not just when you need something. It will also come in handy when next there is a movie audition you are unaware off.

7. Get as good as you can at the craft of acting

This includes taking classes, befriending actors and filmmakers, create opportunities to practice. Be very honest with yourself about your strengths and weaknesses; never blame “the system” when you don’t get parts. Experience is key. The director and studio want to know you have a history of showing up and being good.

8. Learn the basics of film production

How does a film actually get made? What separates bad film-making from good film-making? This gives you leverage over a newbie who has no prior experience. It would help build vocabulary for yourself, when next film terms are flying around you can meaningfully contribute to such discussions.

9 Be Professional

Do not ever take it personally if you are not casted or called back. They may not have been looking for someone who looks like you, talks like you, or perhaps acts like you. There are some people who don’t fit in certain parts. Thank the Casting Directors and look forward to your next audition

10 Get on-screen credits and Be Ready To Work for Free if Need Be

Money shouldn’t be your only driving force when breaking into Nollywood. You should have it at the back of your mind that you are building your resume when doing this jobs for free.

It sucks, no doubt considering you have to transport and feed yourself at the same time. Always remember that nothing good comes easy
