Chinyere, wife of Emmanuel Nnamdi, the Nigerian asylum seeker beaten to death in Italy, has rendered a heartbreaking narration of how they fled Nigeria, and traveled to Italy through Libya suffering hunger and beatings.

Emmanuel was attacked and killed in the central Italian town of Fermo, as he tried to defend his wife from a man who taunted her as an “African monkey”.

The Italian government has condemned the killing and is charging the man, identified as Amedeo Mancini, with manslaughter.

The government also granted asylum status to Chinyere.
